Description Alexander 2013-08-06 19:52:48 UTC
Subj. My uptime is 2 days and 4 hours, I used the suspend mode to not power off the PC yesterday. Everything worked well the whole day today then I get out for ≈ 2 hours and just get back. The bug appears in that every KDE application takes about 40 seconds to start when usually it takes no longer than a few seconds or even less.

Affected applications I have: amarok, dolphin, gwenview, digikam
Not affected: kmail, qt applications like skype, odeskteam, qt-recordmydesktop

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Start KDE and leave it in idle for a few hours

BTW, even though KMail is not affected and starts fast it freezes when switching between messages in the messages list.

When it happen, run top command to see if any program consume cup or memory?
Comment 3 Alexander 2013-09-01 16:57:17 UTC
No CPU usage.

I also see this with 4.10.5 in debian unstable. After leaving the computer on for the night (I run simulations for my thesis), something breaks in kde. All kde applications seem to wait for a ~30s timeout when starting up (except okular), or displaying the file open/save dialog.

Suspend doesn't work, either; according to /var/log/pm-suspend.log it doesn't even try calling pm-suspend. After logging out and back in, suspend is not even available in the menu.

This has already happened to me multiple times.

Is starting KDE applications slow because of constant disk accesses (KDE libraries could be swapped out in the meantime), or does it hang for a long time without accessing the disks?
Comment 6 Alexander 2013-09-19 06:36:32 UTC
Hi, in my case there are no CPU or disk usage, it feels like processes are simply freeze at some point waiting for something, but not related to the performance.
Comment 7 miklos 2013-09-19 09:19:53 UTC
No CPU usage, no disk access, they just wait for something, then timeout.
Comment 8 Christoph Feck 2013-10-02 21:21:31 UTC
That would indicate a problem with D-Bus. If you can reproduce these, please try to disable kded modules as indicated at http://kdepepo.wordpress.com/2011/05/11/troubleshooting-kded4-bugs/

If the hangs disappear with a specific module disabled, please add your findings. Since I cannot reproduce, you should start with distribution-supplied kded modules, such as those for package management and system updates.

If you can provide the information requested in comment #8, please add it.
Comment 10 Alexander 2013-11-19 07:11:56 UTC
Hi, I tried to stop all modules and even kill kded, that did not help.

No response; assuming it was fixed since then.
