Description Wayne Parker 2013-08-06 19:32:00 UTC
I'll just repost what I wrote on the forum :)

"I guess what I'm getting at is that in Corel Painter if you want multiple textures rapidly without changing your brush, the use of papers (textures) to do this speeds things up tremendously. Why have a pattern docker with a larger viewing area if it wasn't for a similar purpose? No worries, I can do without this feature I just was curious about the docker and what purpose does it serve other than being able to view your patterns at a larger scale. Besides, if it worked the way I envisioned once an artist finds a texture/pattern they like, they can still save a preset or change it with new pattern from pattern docker and save another. Thank you for the super fast response. :D "

Reproducible: Always

Thanks Wayne! And ack for the suggestion, too.

I think the simplest way to do it, would be to add a checkbox "use global texture" to the texture option. It would use the currently selected pattern instead of the locally selected one. The downside would be that you may want to use a different pattern for painting and texture at the same time.

The alternative would be to have a whole new texture resource type that would work independently from the patterns.

Painter works this way. A library for patterns and a library of papers (textures). This is probably the best solution as people use patterns (tone screens, repetitive designs, bucket fills) for one thing and canvas/textures for another - on average. Although a global solution may be less confusing to new users and keep things speedy as there are currently.
