Description David Monniaux 2001-09-09 20:31:58 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: khtml
Version: 3.0 (using KDE 2.2.0 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: Red Hat Linux 7.1.93
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-96)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.7
OS/Compiler notes:

Using Arial Unicode MS as the default font: some Japanese pages print OK to PDF (www.asahi.com) but some others
generate incorrect PDF (http://www.kantei.go.jp/).

Printing Japanese pages to PostScript directly never seems to work (but it is possible to print the correctly generated PDF files using Acrobat Reader).

I cannot print that page (http://www.kantei.go.jp/) with Konq from CVS, either. It
generated two pages, but both are empty.

This could be qt related.

On gentoo, using qt patches from here
http://www.kde.gr.jp/~akito/patch/qt3-kde3/qt-3.2.3/qt-x11-free-3.2.3-qpsprinter-useFreeType2-20031128.patch

I can print the kantei page no problem (eitehr to printer or pdf). (kde 3.1.5)

Both sites you mentioned in the message seem to work properly in here. I'm using konqueror 20040720 and Qt 3.3.2.
Comment 5 Dik Takken 2005-03-01 14:04:53 UTC
I can confirm this problem in KDE 3.3.2.

Creating a PDF or PS file works perfectly, KGhostview fails to display the generated PDF and PS files. That's why the print preview shows empty pages. When you actually really print it on paper, it prints just fine.

Re-assigning to KGhostView.

Printing to PDF and print previewing http://www.kantei.go.jp/ works OK for me (I'm using kpdf as a print previewer; kpdf runs "ps2pdf" in the background to create itself a PDF; the fonts are embedded, least one separate embedding problem that I will address in a new bug report of its own... ).

I don't know wether the Japanese glyphs are correctly displayed, though. But to me it looks good. :-)

KDE 3.5.3 here (selfcompiled), and AFPL Ghostscript 8.51.

-----
Font embedding, rendering and printing seems still to be one of the recurring problems for many KDE users.

I'll try to create a "meta-bug" report about that soon, but right now I'm still collecting data points. When I have that bug report, I'll close this one as a duplicate. Leaving it open for now...
Comment 7 András Manţia 2007-12-14 14:38:40 UTC
I get this with KDE 3.5.8 on openSUSE 10.1 when printing the page:

A print error occurred. Error message received from system:

Abnormal process termination (gs -q -dSAFER -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=$out{/home/andris/print.pdf} -sPAPERSIZE=a4 -c .setpdfwrite -f '/tmp/kde-andris/kdeprint_rCu21ZFY' ).

Preview shows something but as far as I can see some glyphs are different in the preview from the rendered page.

Works fine with Okular.
