This seems to be a problem with Ubuntu 13.04 based systems. I first saw it with Kubuntu 13.04, and it is also affecting Linux Mint 15 KDE. I use a 23" HDTV (HDMI) as my monitor, powered by an NVidia GeForce GT 440 card. The powersave and Screensaver are disabled, and I manually turn off the TV when I walk away from the PC. When I turn the TV back on, there is KDE Daemon crash handler window on my screen...but I cannot use it, because KDED no longer works. The icons on the panel, next to the clock, also look odd. I've got a couple of screenshots, but don't see an option to add them here. Anyway, the message for the crash is this: Executable: kdeinit4 PID: 2567 Signal: Segmentation fault (11) The PID changes, but the rest is always the same. After that, Everything looks great...except for the icons by the clock. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Power on the PC 2. Turn off the monitor 3. Observe the result Actual Results: This was covered in the Details box. Expected Results: KDE detects that a new monitor has been found, and asks if I would like to use it as the default. Here's the backtrace: Application: KDE Daemon (kdeinit4), signal: Segmentation fault Using host libthread_db library "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1".
