Description Simon Andric 2013-07-26 22:10:59 UTC
help.... i forgot my username, and my email is in the database of kde forums... but both are required to reset my password...

i dont know my username and im not sure that i remember password also... but when i try to register again... it says my email is already in database...so when i try t reset my password - it says i have to know my username also...

can you at least delete my email from database, so i can re-register with it - or please help me to reset my password (and understand which username i picked for myself)

thank you!

Simon :)

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Ingo Malchow 2013-07-26 22:23:40 UTC
First let me clear up some missunderstanding. When you try to register or reset your password, you are on identity.kde.org, the central login service for KDE. This provides a central account where you can login and create accounts based on those credentials for e.g. the forums or the wikis.

This explains that your username is indeed NOT in the forums database, but it is in the db for identity.kde.org :) And it corresponds to the email you used here. Your username is "andric"

Hope that helps resetting your password. Note: Once that is done and you go over to forum.kde.org you will need to login with that username and your new password, and on the first time you will be asked again to choose a displayname. This does not work as login! It is only the name that will be displayed to the public.
Comment 2 Simon Andric 2013-07-27 02:36:57 UTC
hello!

first, thank you for your kind help...sedond: i tried with username "andric" and my email, but got this message:

Information

The e-mail/username information submitted could not be found.

....could i be doing sth wrong?

thank you 4 ur help :)

nice day

simon:)
Comment 3 Ingo Malchow 2013-07-27 02:43:33 UTC
Make sure you try to reset your password on http://identity.kde.org and not http://forum.kde.org
Comment 4 Simon Andric 2013-07-27 03:00:15 UTC
hello!

although it didnt want to reset my password - i could log on using my standard password...

also noq i understand that the username is just for the purpose of logging in....right?

another thing....it didnt ask me to change my username in identity but in kde forum... :) thank you for help...now it works....

nice day

Simon:)

I request reopening this bug. I have the same problem (email reported as taken so can't re-register, username either forgotten or rejected by password recovery form for unknown reasons), except I have just registered a few days ago, never received the handshake email, and never had the opportunity to set password.
Comment 6 Ben Cooksley 2013-12-27 05:02:46 UTC
I've sent you an email now with your account details.
Comment 7 Mathieu Jobin 2014-05-08 03:33:46 UTC
same issue here...
the system says I have the incorrect username.
I am sure of my email address though.
same email as for bugs.kde.org
i wish there would be another form to recover username automatically.

thanks
Comment 8 Ben Cooksley 2014-05-08 07:51:55 UTC
While you may have a forum account, the forum has since switched to Identity authentication you need to use your KDE Identity credentials to login. The name displayed on the forum is merely your "display name".

I have checked both the forum and Identity databases - your email address is registered on neither.
Comment 9 Mathieu Jobin 2014-05-08 17:12:34 UTC
Thanks for looking into it... but when I try to register a new account on
identity.kde.org it says ... ( Email Address "somekool@somekool.net" has
already been taken. )

I think it's very much likely I have registered an account in the past.
could you have an other look ?

I need access to https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/account/login/
which also use Identity service.

thanks
Comment 10 Ben Cooksley 2014-05-09 08:55:03 UTC
You had a pending registration from a previous entry. I have now resent that account activation email.
Comment 11 Mathieu Jobin 2014-05-10 09:34:00 UTC
thanks, problem solved.
Comment 12 quazgar 2014-06-16 12:00:15 UTC
I can confirm the problem on identity.kde.org as reported by previous users:

Resetting the password is only possible when one remembers the username, and the email address is blocked for registration of new accounts if one created an account before.

All previous problems have been solved only by manual interference, not by resolving the underlying problem that users have no way to reset their password or obtaining information about their username without first knowing the username.

Comment 14 David 2014-06-24 09:10:42 UTC
I'm having the same issue, I have the same e-mail registered in bugs and indentity but I can't remember my user name for the latter. Could you please have a look at it? I'm not sure if I activated my account.
Comment 15 Ben Cooksley 2014-06-24 10:26:04 UTC
I have now emailed your Identity username to you David.
Comment 16 David 2014-06-24 10:37:16 UTC
Thank you very much Ben, problem solved.
Comment 17 christian tacke 2014-09-02 09:25:36 UTC
Same for me - I don't remember my username... Didn't use the account for a while a can't remember another possibility for my username. Please Help.
Comment 18 Ben Cooksley 2014-09-02 09:32:32 UTC
You can't login because the forum now uses Identity for authentication, and you don't have an Identity account. If you register on Identity using the same email address as you used on the forum, then your accounts will be merged when you login.
Comment 19 christian tacke 2014-09-02 09:38:33 UTC
I created an identity account but forgot the username I used there. I even logged in once using identity. Then I didn't use it for a while and it's gone from my mind. As I don't have the username (only my email) I can't change anything. (not the email used here, it's lorbluelight(at)gmx(dot)de)
Comment 20 Ben Cooksley 2014-09-02 10:01:28 UTC
I'm afraid I can't find any accounts registered with the address you specified. Can you please try to register on Identity with that address (assuming it matches your forum email address)?
Comment 21 christian tacke 2014-09-02 10:10:15 UTC
Identity says the Mail is already taken but I forgot one letter in the mail.

Comment 22 Ben Cooksley 2014-09-02 10:18:27 UTC
I've emailed your Identity account username to you.
Comment 23 christian tacke 2014-09-02 10:21:22 UTC

Comment 24 Matus Talcik 2014-09-20 18:51:27 UTC

Comment 25 Ben Cooksley 2014-09-20 19:22:00 UTC
Your Identity username has been sent to you via email.
Comment 26 T 2014-11-04 16:11:15 UTC
Luckily, this (bug) page saved the password against my email The page did not recognise my user or passwrds

Otherwise I would never have been able to contact anyone about not being able to sign in.

email: drajdoyle@aol.com
The user - It should have been "wrapper" or after that : "wrapperband" - according to my information.

It was annoying and is causeing you more work not to be able to have a simple reset (perhaps confirming) for the emailadderss???

Caused me trouble lot of reporting the fix to Kaffeine failed audio on upgrade to kubuntu 14.10 (+KDE) ( I am disabled and have trouble anyway).

Your KDE Identity username has now been emailed to you.
Comment 28 Matt Hoover 2014-11-21 01:21:37 UTC
Same problem as many others. I am already logged in through my browser on bugs.kde.org (thankfully, otherwise I could not write this), email address the.one.eleven AT gmail DOT com, no idea what my username is.

On identity.kde.org (and forums.kde.org), I can neither login, register, nor reset my password. I also have no way of knowing what my username is, though I have suspicions.
Comment 29 Ben Cooksley 2014-11-24 07:26:49 UTC
I've now emailed your username to you.
Comment 30 Jaime Alberto Silva 2015-04-24 20:43:19 UTC
I'm having the same problem here. As long as I know I only have a bugs.kde.org account but I can not create an account at identity.kde.org because it says that my mail has been taken, when I try to recover password it demands a username which I don't have or remember.

My email is jaimealbertosilva AT gmail DOT com

Thanks.
Comment 31 Ben Cooksley 2015-04-26 09:43:21 UTC
Your Identity username has now been emailed to you Jaime.
Comment 32 Mladen Milinkovic, Max 2015-05-03 13:37:17 UTC

Comment 33 Mladen Milinkovic, Max 2015-05-03 13:46:43 UTC
please ignore my request.. have figured the login
Comment 34 Alberto Gonzalez Iniesta 2015-07-09 10:57:49 UTC
Hi there, I also forgot my user name in identity.k.o. Sorry for the noise. Maybe a "Recover username" option will be a good idea? Thanks, Alberto
Comment 35 Ben Cooksley 2015-07-10 23:39:37 UTC
Your username has now been emailed to you.
Comment 36 linnets 2015-08-16 06:20:23 UTC
My user name was register in the forum is: metalinx , mail: rusviba@yahoo.com
I can't recover password.
Comment 37 Ben Cooksley 2015-08-16 09:49:36 UTC
I've checked your account - you don't have a KDE Identity account hence why you can't login to the forum.

Please head to https://identity.kde.org/ and register using the same email address as you used on the forum (rusviba@yahoo.com).

Once activated you should be able to login on the forum using your new Identity credentials, and the forum should automatically map your new Identity account with your previous Forum account.
Comment 38 mzs.112000@gmail.com 2015-08-30 23:02:49 UTC
I have this same issue.
mail: mzs(dot)112000(at)gmail(dot)com
I also forgot my user name.
You should add a "Forgot Username" option.

Your username has been emailed to you.
Comment 40 Loïc Grobol 2015-09-20 13:16:49 UTC
Same issue here. I lost my username.

Btw this seem to be a common issue. Could we have a username recovery tied to the email (as it's the piece of information one is the less likely to lose) ?
Comment 41 Ben Cooksley 2015-09-21 07:12:48 UTC
Your username has now been emailed to you. Improvements are being worked on to the process, however we don't know how long they will take at this time sorry.
Comment 42 Loïc Grobol 2015-09-21 08:02:36 UTC
Thanks. For the help and the follow up both :)

Comment 47 Joe 2015-10-30 20:50:04 UTC

Comment 48 Joe 2015-10-31 14:48:31 UTC
Can anyone show me how to completely delete an account?
Comment 49 Ben Cooksley 2015-10-31 18:06:31 UTC
Joe, your username has now been emailed to you.
Comment 50 Alexandre Pereira 2015-12-19 19:23:27 UTC
... Would it be possible to also know my username ? My email is pereira.alex@gmail.com

It should be a combination of "pereira" and "alex" words, but cannot figure it out.

Thanks

Comment 63 Jakub Schmidtke 2016-07-14 16:36:06 UTC
I am trying to login on forum.kde.org and it tells me my password is wrong.
When I try to recover it, it takes me to identity.kde.org. Which requires a username,
and no way to recover it. Which is absolutely ridiculous!
And when I try register (I thought maybe I didn't actually use the forum in the past)
it tells me that my e-mail is taken.

So:
1. I can't create a new account, because my e-mail is already used.
2. I cannot login without knowing the username and the password
3. I need the username to recover the password,
4. There is no way to recover the username!

Out of curiosity, who designed this system?
Comment 64 Ben Cooksley 2016-07-15 06:40:52 UTC
Jakub, your username has now been sent to you.
Comment 65 Jakub Schmidtke 2016-07-15 21:03:56 UTC
(In reply to Ben Cooksley from comment #64)
> Jakub, your username has now been sent to you.

Thanks, but that's not the point!

Are you actually expecting people to recover their usernames
by posting in some weird bug request?
And you're going to keep responding to those?
This is still a terrible, terrible system!

Why is this bug even marked as "resolved"?
Comment 66 Luca Beltrame 2016-07-15 21:16:43 UTC
There are quite a number of plans to improve this situation, but you may not be aware that:

a. People doing sysadmin work / forum are all volounteers;
b. There isn't a sufficiently large number of people to tackle such complex issues in a timely manner;
c. Even "regular" maintenance requires a lot of work, so larger plans move slowly.

> And you're going to keep responding to those?

What else can be done? Not ideal, but we got to do what we can until the situation improves.
Comment 67 Luis Lezcano Airaldi 2016-10-06 14:54:13 UTC
Sorry for the noise, but I have the same problem. I'm pretty sure I never registered on KDE Identity, only here in the bugtracking system, so I don't have a username, only my e-mail address and I can't login, register nor reset my password.

Thank you.
Comment 68 Ben Cooksley 2016-10-07 18:00:25 UTC
Luis, you had an account which had not yet been activated. I've resent the account activation email to you now.
Comment 69 sasha 2016-10-08 18:23:41 UTC
Same here. I do not remember my user name. My email is the same as on this KDE bugs account.
