When new mail arrives, a sound is played, even though the playing of a sound is disabled in the Notifications dialog of KMail.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. On KMail's menu bar, click Settings > Configure Notifications... .
2. On the Notifications dialog, from the drop-down list, select KMail.
3. In the table, click the "New Mail Arrived" item.
4. In the settings are, uncheck "Play a sound".
5. Click OK.
Actual Results:  
When new mail arrives, a sound is still played.

Expected Results:  
When new mail arrives, a sound should not be played.

Sorry for taking long to respond. It sounds similar to KDE-Im-Low-Priority-Message.ogg, if it is not the same sound.

So look at if you have beep activated 
settings->account->receive -> beel
