Description rockonthemoonfm 2013-07-17 15:48:24 UTC
regression, noticed it in 4.10.95, not present in 4.10.x

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. put panel at left side
2. drag a window to left side to quick tile it
3. hold it dragged
Actual Results:
window level is raised from below and covers panel.

Expected Results:
window level remains under panel

As pointed out, this is not trivially resolvable.

Elevation above the indicator was deemed required since there's no guarantee about the indicators translucency (and playing on it's global opactiy has uncontrolled impact on its visibility)

So it would be necessary to either make the tiling indicator a managed window (to move it into the regular stacking) or to raise panels and all windows above them and use this to maintain the original stacking regarding the dragged client, but elevated above the indicator.

having no programming skills, unfortunately i can offer no solutions nor help working them out.

i noticed that windows being tiled can go above their own pop-up windows and always-on-top windows too.

Yes, the window is elevated to be on top of unstacked windows (in particular the indicator, but also usual popups) which themselve are on top of every other window - the dragged window becomes pretty much the topmost thing rendered by the compositor.
