Description Simon Andric 2013-07-10 20:43:31 UTC
hello!

my setup:
VGA-0 (default monitor) (4/3) display resolution (current) 1280x1'24 (hope i can get it back to 1400x1050)
HDMI-1 (TV) (16/9) display resolution 1920x1080

screen is cloned (so the right part of the screen is visible only on TV you cannot see it on monitor, and the monitor display is by 54 in the Y direction raised so that the panel is displyed while the top part is also invisible 1024 in monitor comparing to 1080 to TV of vertical size (1080-1024= 54)

and now the problem which i have with ksplash:
Its like this...login screen appears in a lower quality than both of my configurations - 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024 (or 1400x1060) like before - but before it only displayed on my VGA, nwo i see it on both screens (with my TV because its 16/9 the login screen is streched). On fortunatelly without editing (and at the same time god forbid) breaking some .conf file i dotn have anny options in kubuntu, to manually set my KSPLASH preferences - i wish they could MIRROR my desktop environemnt preferences. anyway, the login screen is not such a big problem, what is interesting now is what happens after i type the password and press ENTER. the login screen goes to splash screen which for a few moments stays 1024 x 768 on both screens (big streched icons on hdmi)...i think that first 3 out of 5 icons apeear in that way. When the fourth icon wants to appear - the desktop preferences kick in and my VGA 4/3 monitor (which became 1280x1024) shows the splash screen still in 1024x768, with default backgound picture tiled on the right and under the splash picture (4 (2x2) squares, one of them splash screen, the other three empty default blue/purple wallpaper) while on HDMI tv the area around the 1024x768 splash screeen is larger but completely black. The nafter all 5 icons apeear, it somehow fades in desktop (the black on hdmi and default wallpaper on my 4/3 VGA first, and after a few seconds finally the 1024x768 splash screen). as far as im concerned it is not something that bothers me - my system works...but its not eye pleasant :) i have desktop-base installed and i use their "joy" login + splash screen. plus by default the login screen+ half of splash tries to CLONE desktop which is i think wrong - 4/3 and 16/9 desktop should never be cloned.... by default...it causes one of them to appear distorted...
thank you!
nice day! :)

hello!

i made two short mpg movies about how logging in kubuntu looks like on both of my screens (VGA and HDMI).

But because the movie clips are too big (each one is 33 MB big, and bugs.kde.org is limited to only 4 MB (wish it was at least 100 MB, for short movie clips like this) i have upload them via sendspace. If the links expire please write me email and i will upload them again, or send them to your email.

Thank you

nice day

Simon :)

btw if you are wondering, the error message that also appears during logging in says:

Profil »AC« je poskušal omogočiti neobstoječe dejanje DimDisplay. Težava je običajno v namestitvi ali pa nastavitvah.

in english (rough translation):

Profile »AC« has tried to enable non-existing action DimDisplay. The problem is usually with the installation or in the settings.

i dont know what that means neither or how to fix it....

nice day

please disregard my previous comment it was long ago fixed. but the funny logging in the kubuntu is still there. if i may add - maybe it is like this on purpose, but i believe that in case whn one has selected 1920x1080 as his primary screen and the toher monitor as secondary screen with resolution 1280x1024 - and they are in the CLONE MODE the ksplash should honor and behave like it is only 1920x1080 screen, disregard the positioning and the resolution constraint on the 4/3 monitor....

nice day! :)
