Randomly, the top few lines of konsole appear to be dim but when there are more lines they are displayed with normal brightness. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Running The Hessling editor in a maximized Konsole window (see stty output below), editing a file with one line in it shows 5 lines which is appropriate 2.The text is VERY DIM 3.adding 2 lines to the file changes this to what would be called normal. 4.I have seen this behavior for other commands stty -a | grep col speed 38400 baud; rows 71; columns 270; line = 0; Actual Results: Display is VERY DIM with 5 or fewer lines displayed in a maximized Konsole. Adding 2 lines makes the display "normal". Just adding 1 line doesn't change this behavior. Expected Results: Normal display intensity at all sizes.
Not sure if this is the same problem or not, but I have a BenQ monitor that has DCR (Dynamic Contrast Ration) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrast_ratio#Dynamic_Contrast_.28DC.29 When DCR is enabled the contrast of the monitor is changed automatically depending on what's displayed on the monitor at that moment. This behaviour is very noticeable in Konsole, since it has grey text with a black background, so with a few lines of text, the monitor is dim, and when more text is displayed the monitor becomes brighter. Check your monitor settings (using the buttons on the monitor) and see if you have that option enabled.
If this really was caused by the monitor, it would not be visible in a screen shot saved to a file. If unsure, please attach one.
Christopf, Since this is random and not creatable readily, I'll have to wait for the next occurrence. My display is a 27" Samsung TV using the HDMI connector and is fairly new (< 1 year). George...
