It is clearly evident that the Network Management should be part of the system i.e. OSX I recommend removing the Network Management plasma widget as a separate package and integrate it into KDE4's system settings. Remove the Network Management as a separate package for installation. Reproducible: Always
Sorry, but until I see networkmanagement and now the new plasma-nm repos as stable they are going to stay a separate package. That set up allows us more flexibility to add/remove strings when implementing new features without having to wait the KDE's usual 6 months release schedule.
Isn't there talk about doing this for Plasma Workspace 2?
Well, I am the Plasma NM maintainer and nobody has talked to me about that.
Please read this blog from Aaron: http://aseigo.blogspot.ca/2013/05/plasma-workspaces-411-long-term-release.html <-- snip With Plasma Workspaces 2 approaching and following it's own rhythm we will be looking to pull more of these projects together. The networking plasmoid, for instance, should not be an add-on developed outside the main workspace efforts, but a properly integrated feature with the ability to participate in the direction setting. So instead of producing a core shell and then waiting for all the pieces to eventually catch up, as we have done in the past, we're working to ensure a complete experience sooner. <-- snip
As I said nobody talked directly to me about that. Unless Plasma Workspace revoke the string freeze I do not see that working for Plasma NM. From time to time the only way we can implement a feature is adding new string, which is forbidden after KDE SC's string freeze. That is the main reason Plasma NM has never been added to kde-workspace and I think it will be the same for Plasma Workspace2.
Apparently, this is a vision that you can discuss with Aaron. ITM Perhaps in the future, can you add a NM module feature to system settings. Similar to OSX?
A KCM.
There is a kcm for Plasma NM already. I have never used OSX, I really do not know what you are talking about when you say "similar to OSX".
Which release of 4.10x are you referring to for the NM kcm? If you've never seen OSX's System Preferences, please disregard as my main focus is on KDE4.
Plasma NM is not part of KDE SC, so asking which KDE SC 4.10.x comes with the kcm does not make any sense. Just go to systemsettings -> NetworkSettings -> Network Connections. Sorry, but I really have never seen the OSX's System Preferrences. Do you have any screenshot of it?
