Description nhduong 2013-06-10 23:35:44 UTC
The taskbar at the bottom of the screen occasionally disappears. Sometimes the taskbar is not shown at log in, other times when a program is run (firefox, kdemenuedit, printer... and lots of others.) Sometimes the taskbar reappears when another program is run, sometimes not. The only cure seems to be logout and log back in.
This problem starts when I updated to 4.10 from 4.9. Currently I'm at 4.10.2. I have little hope I will resolve with >4.10.2.
I know I can add another pannel but it is pretty cumbersome.
Regards.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. The problem is random but very often, certainly every session.
2. There is no way to reliably reproduce it. Just keep starting up new program and the taskbar will surely disappear after a while (a few minutes at most.)
3.

Linux 3.7.1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Mar 22 18:45:18 EST 2013 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

A backtrace is required to know what the cause of the problem is. It is not neccessarily the taskbar widget, it could be a number of other components that make up the panel and the application it is in. Thanks.

How to get the problem to appear.

The steps to cause the problem to appear on my system:
1) Set the pannel to auto-hide.
2) Log out of KDE.
3) Log in to KDE, but do not touch the mouse.
Moving the mouse to the bottom, or anywhere else for that matter, does not cause the taskbar to appear.

Please note that this is not a crash, therfore there is no crash report. My KDE is now at updated to 4.10.3 but the problem remains.

At step 3) do not touch the mouse until the KDE login process has entirely finished.

Hello! Plasma 4 was replaced by Plasma 5 four years ago by the KDE community. In that time we have made great strides in stability and functionality. We are closing all Plasma 4 bugs as most of them are no longer applicable to the new frameworks Plasma 5 is built upon. If you could, please re-test with the latest version of Plasma 5, and submit a new bug to "plasmashell" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!
