If I set tab as shortcut for any action through "Settings –> Configure Shortcuts", I can't use it for switching focus anymore. This makes usage of search and replace pain because I have to use mouse to from "Find"-field to "Replace"-field. It happens with similar tools too like "Find". So far I've noticed this problem with Calligra Words, Kate and KDevelop. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Kate (for example) 2. Settings –> Configure Shortcuts 3. Bind Tab as shortcut for "About KDE" (to make problem as visible as possible) 4. Open "Replace" (Ctrl-R by default) 5. Write something to "Find" 6. Try to switch focus to "Replace"-field with tab 7. About KDE window appears Actual Results: About KDE window appears. Expected Results: Focus should move to "Replace"-field. I have same problem with Kubuntu 13.04 with KDE version 4.10.3 Focus changing works well when no actions is binded to tab.
Small note: Since Kate actually recommends making Tab shortcut for Align to achieve Emacs-like tab behaviour, I assumed that it would work without problems.
How should it know it should not invoke the configured action?
I don't know. Maybe it's just better to work around it. Perhaps Find and Replace should be changed to dialog / window. For example in Kate "Tools –> Snippets..." tab works. Same with KDevelop's "Find/Replace In Files". Or maybe Kate should have option for letting tab to work like align without configuring shortcuts.
