Description Axel Krebs 2013-06-02 18:17:24 UTC
When printing in digiKam, black-and-white print are nearly black.

This is true for: single printouts, printing to pdf, to ps or jpgs and subsequent printing those files

Using brother HL-2250DN which prints perfectly in GIMP, in libreoffice etc.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. just start printing single pics or more than one pic per page with print-assistent
2. check prints
3. nearly black prints
Actual Results:
unsatisfaying black printouts

Expected Results:
should print just right as it woirks under GIMP, GIMP gutenprint or libreoffice

What's the print preview given by printing system on your computer ?

It's also broken ?

How do you print ? From Image Editor ? From Print Wizard ?

Print preview looks perfectly right (not "broken").

Printing how: from image editor, _and_ from print wizard, alternatively.

Directly on paper or "printuing as file" and subsequent printing.

Go to Gwenview and try to print image.

Can you see the same dysfunction ?

Comment 4 Axel Krebs 2013-06-03 17:46:32 UTC
it looks like, as GwenView is different: one out of four pics is very
bright, but three others are still very dark.

This holds true for single pics printing as for printing assistent.

And is is the same result, if I "print to pdf" and print this pdf
subsequently.

Sound like a common dysfunction in Qt print sub-system. I forward this rentry in right place...

This is also the wrong component :P

print-manager manage print jobs and printers, and your printers are setup ok otherwise GIMP wouldn't work too. It has nothing to do with processing your jobs and sending to CUPS, the application does that by itself .

Now if this happens with every KDE/Qt application you will need to fill the bug in Qt itself.

I'll reassign to the KDE print dialog as it's the one closer to sending a job to the printer but I don't think they can help much as it seems to be a bug in Qt when creating the print job.
Comment 8 Axel Krebs 2013-06-03 19:36:32 UTC
I'm not sure if I understand correctly: I did _not- assign this issue to
this component "print-manager".

P.S.: As much as I remember, I did not find an according component at
all in KDE bug-tracking system.

Maybe this itself could be a starting point to re-affirm the bug
tracking components?

I know you didn't reassign it, and it's no big deal to assign to the wrong one, the problem here is actually knowing from your description what is broken.
So here in this component maybe John Layt might have a clue about the issue, if not it should still stay at the application showing the problem, or go to Qt bugtracker as the code to print is there. Since you said it works fine on Gimp, print-manager/CUPS are out.

Hi Axel, are you still experiencing this issue with current versions of digiKam and Qt?

If so, can you please attach your printer's PPD file (which should be located at '/etc/cups/ppd/<YOURPRINTERNAME>.ppd') and a sample file with which you can reproduce this when printing from digiKam?
