Description ajidala 2013-05-26 22:08:18 UTC
There is no option to change the page names in the kde-netbook Search and Launch interface. All I can do is change the type of the page, but not the name.

Reproducible: Always

This is very similar to #285217 as renaming is nearly identical to remove the name
Comment 2 ajidala 2013-07-04 10:00:27 UTC
Still present in 4.10.5
Workaround is to dive into the configs

1. Open ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-netbook-appletsrc
2. Change the name in "activity"
3. Save and restart KDE

(As far as I'm aware, this was it. If it doesn't work, let me know. I know I could change it through a config file and I think this one was the right one)

I am on Kubuntu 13.04 (with KDE 4.10.x), and it is impossible to change not only the name of the default page "Search and Launch", but also the name of any subsequent page created. Every subsequent page created is automatically given name "Page x" (Page 1, Page 2, etc). There is no configuration dialog to change it.

I have also tried to change the name in file
~/.kde/share/config/plasma-netbook-appletsrc
by, first, logging of the graphical environment then editing the file and then logging in again. The name does change, but the page itself is then rendered useless: all the widgets on it get corrupt (I only see contours, not the content, and even the contous get lost); also you cannot remove those corrupt widgets, and neither can you add new ones that would work (they become invisible once added). The page controls, accessible through the cachew in the lower left corner, also become problematic (first, the cachew becomes invisible, and the controls, once you click the invisible cachew, do appear, but also disappear while you hover on them.

I have also tried to delete the kde user- specific cache in /var/tmp/, but it does not help.

I am marking this bug as confirmed. It has also been reported in 2011 on http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=95383 . As renaming "pages" is something that everyone adding them should want to do, does that mean the plasma-nebtook is abandoned (both from the user and developer point of view)?

By the way, I did not try changing the name of the main page "Search and Launch", I am afraid I will ruin the thing (also, the name does suit me :)

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
