Description Martin Tlustos 2013-05-16 11:12:48 UTC
When selecting "html" in the dialog, it only displays text (or the html source code, when there is no text in mime), when selecting "text only", html gets displayed...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add an email address to kaddressbook that sends html emails
2. select "Bevorzugte Nachrichten im Format - HTML" (German version of preferred format)
3. Click ok and reload message.
Actual Results:
only text is displayed (or html source code)

Expected Results:
html should be displayed

Obviously there is nothing wrong with the german translation:

l10n-kde4/de/messages/kdepimlibs/akonadicontact.po

#: editor/contacteditorwidget.cpp:278
msgid "Prefers to receive messages formatted as:"
msgstr "Bevorzugt Nachrichten im Format:"

#: editor/contacteditorwidget.cpp:282
msgid "Unknown"
msgstr "Unbekannt"

#: editor/contacteditorwidget.cpp:282
msgid "Plain Text"
msgstr "Einfacher Text"

#: editor/contacteditorwidget.cpp:282
msgid "HTML"
msgstr "HTML"

> 3. Click ok and reload message.
What exactly do you mean with "reload message" and how do you do it?
Comment 2 Martin Tlustos 2013-05-16 15:17:27 UTC
Well, I have to click on another mail and then click on the first mail, so that the display gets updated - it doesn't get updated automatically after adding/editing the address of the sender.

Anyway, on my two computers, choosing "html" gives text-only output, whereas "text-only" gives html output.

Forgot to add that it's ubuntu packages, it might be a problem with those (athough I doubt it - they wouldn't randomly change translations, would they? ;-)).

Since you reported this issue for version 4.10 I checked Ubuntu Raring translations. It does contain unmodified upstream translations from the KDE language pack. See http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/raring/kde-l10n-de/raring-proposed/view/head:/messages/kdepimlibs/akonadicontact.po.

I also checked the source code and couldn't see anything unusual. It sets currentIndex to 1 for Text or 2 for HTML and when it opens the message it also uses the same numbers to check which format to use so at least not a trivial problem here.

Can anybody else confirm this problem in KDE on Ubuntu or a different platform?

@ Martin Tlustos:

1) Please close KMail + Kaddressbook, open a konsole and enter:
$ KDE_LANG=en_US kaddressbook
$ KDE_LANG=en_US kmail

2) Then follow the steps you provided to reproduce this issue.

If you still have the error you reported, this is no problem of the german translation.
Comment 6 Martin Tlustos 2013-05-17 08:13:50 UTC
yes, it does the same thing - so it's not a problem with translation, but wih the coding.
Comment 7 Martin Tlustos 2014-05-15 09:26:36 UTC
still there in 4.13
Comment 8 Gerben 2015-02-13 10:58:23 UTC
Same problem here. (Kubuntu 14.10, English language)
Took me ages to figure out why I always got the plain text versions of messages while having 'prefer html' turned on.

This bug has only been reported for versions older than KDEPIM 4.14 (at most akonadi-1.3). Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a recent version of akonadi (part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

seems to work now, at least on my computer. kmail version 5.1.3
