Description fglopez 2013-05-12 18:56:19 UTC
Hi,

as some other 'viewer' applications ( Gwenview, Evince, Irfantview, Eye of Gnome, etc ... ) do, I think it would be confortable and familiar for many users to provide the ESC key as an aditional way for escaping from fullscreen mode. It would also contibute to homogenize that behaviour with Presentation mode ( which already have to be exited through ESC key ) .

It might even be interesting providing the choice to set ESC key as a way to exit the application from normal mode ... ... so that it would just take a coulple of ESC key presses going from fullscreen mode to exit.

Would you consider adding this feature ?

 Thank you.

Ps.- I am running Okular 0.15.5 over KDE 4.9.5 on a Kubuntu 12.10 amd64 box.

Reproducible: Always

Adding Esc to quit the application won't happen. And for fullscreen either. It's not the KDE way, we do use Ctrl+Shift+F for fullscreen.

First of all ... I ACCEPT your decision.

regarding quitting the application through ESC key, I understand it can be a controversial issue ... so it's OK for me.

On the other hand, concerning escaping fullscreen mode through ESC key, I hope you can understand I am a bit surprised after you claiming "It's not the KDE way" ... since for instance Gwenview ( another KDE application ) also escapes from fullscreen through ESC key ... even Okular itself already uses ESC key for escaping Presentation mode ... ... ...

Sure ... I respect "the KDE way" , but I have also heard many times "the KDE way" related to a high degree of customization standard ... which is so nice. For example, Okular defaults to Ctrl+Shift+F to fullscreen, but it gives me the option to customize it ... so I changed to F11 ... and we are all happy. I was just asking for something very similar to that ... Okular could of course keep following its defaults ... but could also offer a way to create a new shortcut key for exiting fullscreen ... I would change it to ESC ... some other users would changed that to other combinations and many users would leave it as it is.

Either way ... let me please use this occasion to say THANKS to you and all present and past Okular developers and mantainers. The truth is I have recently discover your app and it has turned out very useful for me (1). Actually I am very much impressed to the point I have submitted several 'feature requests' ( as you noticed ) which is something I admit I am usually very lazy about, but this time I committed to do it and, even though it seems I haven't been very lucky ... I keep feeling much grateful for such a nice app so ... ... thank to you all very much !!!

 Regards.

(1) I knew Okular existed ... actually it has been installed in my box for a while, but sincerely I barely used it even once. Recently a new necessity came up ... I needed an application that confortably managed some CBR files ... and after trying several applications ( without being fully satisfied ) I told myself ... "why don't trying with Okular ?". Long story short ... I got quite happily surprised ... what a fantastic application !!!

The thing is, there's no key for exiting fullscreen, it's the same key that toggles fullscreen on and off. So can't do that. And yes, that's how kdelibs works, if other apps are not following that, well, i'm sorry, can't force everyone into the path.
