Description Martin Steigerwald 2013-05-10 10:22:27 UTC
Today I created a folder "Rettet den Regenwald" to put some mails from the NGO online actions in there. I moved them over from my inbox and accesses the folder. I got an error message popup saying: invalid collection "" in folder "" (translated from german). Okay, then I created "RettetdenRegenwald" as folder and tried to move all the mails to there. After that mails where gone from "Rettet den Regenwald" folder and I thought it lost data. I also created an even simpler folder "Regenwald", but no mails to move to there left.

Well, the mails are still in "inbox" folder, so no data loss.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have some mails in obox
2. Create a top folder "Mitwelt"
3. Create a folder "Rettet den Regenwald" in that folder
4. Move some mails to that folder
5. Access the folder
6. Create a folder "RettetdenRegenwald" within "Mitwelt"
7. Move the mails displayed in "Rettet den Regenwald" to "RettetdenRegenwald"

I think the following is not needed to reproduce the bug:

8. Create the folder "Regenwald" within "Mitwelt"
Actual Results:
Mails are still in inbox.

Additionally folder "RettetdenRegenwald" was not created:

martin@merkaba:~/.local/share/local-mail/.Lichtvoll.directory/.Mitwelt.directory> ls -ld Re*
drwxr-xr-x 5 martin martin 4096 Mai 10 12:04 Regenwald
drwxr-xr-x 5 martin martin 4096 Mai 10 12:03 Rettet den Regenwald

(both folders do not contain any mails)

Expected Results:
Either one of the following:

1) Moving mails to folder with spaces in names work.

2) It is not possible to create a folder with space in name.

Additionally:

3) KMail does not show a state which does not match reality. I believe the mails never have been moved to folder "Rettet den Regenwald", but KMail still displayed them as being there.

KDEPIM SC 4.10.2 with Akonadi 1.9.1 and MySQL 5.5 on Debian Sid/Experimental.

xsession errors during this happened

grep -v "plasma" to omit plasma related messages. I think it contains more than this event, but I was not sure where it started as no time stamps in there.

grep -v plasma to remove plasma related noise. I think it contains more than the event, but I did not know where it exactly started, due to no time stamps in there. The end should be pretty much accurate as I copied the file after it happened.

This also happens sometimes with folders without spaces in name.

And moving mails to such a folder *or* removing duplicate mails via mail, I am not sure which one, led to data loss. All of the moved mails, i.e. all of the 5-6 mails in that folder I had this today.

As I manage to take time I try to reproduce this with a new from scratch test user.

Raising to grave as due to potential data loss.
Comment 6 Martin Steigerwald 2013-08-13 13:11:33 UTC
Well this still happens occasionally, not only on filter moved mails, but also on manually moved or deleted mails. Its just says it cannot move or delete and mails reappear in source folder again.

Message is:

Lokale Ordner: Die Nachricht „1376178253.R283.merkaba:2,S“ kann nicht gelöscht werden.

Cannot reproduce with KDE SC 4.12.2 and Akonadi 1.11.0. Moving mails to/from a folder named "_test test test" as well as deleting mails in there works okay. Thus closing.
