Description Janet 2013-05-04 16:07:09 UTC
Since KDE SC 4.9 (4.9.5 & 4.10.2 here) dolphin (2.1 & 2.2) shows a very unusual behaviour: When I drag a *split* dolphin window to the screen corner, the window gets small. When I drag the window back from the corner it should restore to its former size - but it stays that tiny.

In KDE SC 4.8 the split window got restored correctly and also the places panel got its former width back as it should.

Split dolphin seems to be the only window so far that doesn't re-resize.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. split dolphin window and drag it to screen corner
2. drag it back
3. dolphin window stays tiny

I noticed when I drag the split dolphin into a screen corner the dolphin window also is not a quarter of the screen as it was in KDE 4.8, it is bigger. Maybe that has something to do with not restoring the size. Other application windows perfectly use a quarter of the screen when dragged to the corner. Dolphin seems to want ot keep some minimal size?

Thanks for the bug report. Nothing happens here when I drag the window to a screen corner. Is some particular KWin setting required to reproduce this?

systemsettings: Verhalten der Arbeitsfläche - Bildschirmränder - Fenster durch Ziehen zum seitlichen Bildschirmrand anordnen

Thanks for the explanation, but I cannot reproduce the problem here. Maybe a screenshot of the window before and after moving to the corner would help (it might depend on the relative sizes of the different parts of the window).

That might be bug 319373.

overlay of split and non-split dolphin window in corner

As you can clearly see in this overlay of the two screenshots the split dolphin window is bigger than a quarter of the screen (probably due to the fixed status bar elements), thus obviously overriding the mechanism to restore the former size.

This even happens on a screen width of 1920, size of icons in sidebar 48, size of icons in file panel 64 - in case that matters... And it is all the status bar elements? Wow, that's a lot of trouble for such a small element... So this is a duplicate of Bug 319373?

Thanks for the detailed explanations and the screen shots.

The window resizing by dragging it to the screen edge. still does not work for me even if I toggle that setting in the system settings.

However, especially after looking at the screen shots (very nice work, Janet!), I'm pretty sure that it's a duplicate of bug 319373 indeed. If you see this bug again in KDE 4.11, feel free to reopen this report. Thanks for your help!
