Description mmdanziger 2013-05-02 11:42:43 UTC
Strangely, when I select the Asia/Jerusalem timezone, it reverts to UTC. The correct TZ is UTC+3. Spot testing of other time zones shows that they work. I don't know what files to attach, if someone can inform me where to look I will add them.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Change TZ in "Date and Time" section of systemsettings.
2. Pick Asia/Jerusalem.

Actual Results:
UTC. Ie, no time zone info loaded.

Expected Results:
UTC+3.

Never seen anything like this before. Other time zones work. I'm running a fresh install of Kubuntu 13.04.

I came across something similar recently:

On one pc running KDE 4.8.5, on this past week the user suddenly noticed it switched from Asia/Jerusalem time to UTC. She switched it back and it seemed to be ok. Don't know if this is related.

On another fresh Kubuntu installation (KDE 4.10.4) a couple of weeks ago, the user tried setting the timezone to Asia/Jerusalem but it still shows the actual time as if it were UTC - sounds like this bug.

I didn't realize it's specific to this timezone (can't confirm), and don't know how that pc is different from a few others which didn't show this problem. Strange indeed.

Update: This is not specific to Jerusalem, as I later had the current timezone set to America/New York and it still showed the same time as if it were UTC. I then tried setting it to Jerusalem, and all three times in the clock tooltip were equal (to UTC)!

Playing around some more, I found that the only way to display the correct time in the clock is to set the current system tz to UTC, and then the default tz in clock settings to New York, however I don't know what implications there are to settings the current tz to UTC (in other applications, logs, etc.)

Can someone help sort this out?

what shows the time as if it were UTC?

Sorry about that - I was referring to the standard clock widget in the taskbar/panel, or to its tooltip (which shows the times in multiple timezones explicitly).
