Description Robin2 2013-04-29 10:25:20 UTC
Kaffeine behaves very badly if the disk becomes full while recording a TV program. First everything freezes with no messages. I have had to switch off my Netbook to get back control. First time I had no idea what the problem was and restarting Kaffeine caused the whole system to freeze again. Now I know to delete some files. However when I restart Kaffeine after deleting the files it won't display TV because it thinks it is still recording and there seems to be no way to get it out of that state. Closing and reopening Kaffeine doesn't help. Previously I solved the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling Kaffeine but yesterday I discovered I could delete a record from sqlite.db using Sqliteman (which I already had).

All of these solutions mean that I miss a lot of the TV program I was watching.

There should be a graceful exit from recording when the disk fills up.

Thanks

...R

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Record TV until the hard disk fills up
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Computer freezes without warning

Expected Results:
There should be a graceful end to recording when the hard disk becomes too full.

The Kaffeine version you're using is too old. We just released upstream a version 2.0.1, with is based on KDE5, and changed both the DVB and video play backends. Could you please test the upstream version and see if it works? The README file contains instructions about how to compile it. You can find it at our git repository:

https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=kaffeine.git

I'm not sure how Kaffeine 2.0.1 would deal with a disk full condition, but I think it may still have issues, as it may not be able to store the configuration data at the sqllite database. There were some changes on the logic that saves the configuration though, so it may work better than in the past version.

This is an old bug, not known to happen on Kaffeine 2.x (with uses different mechanisms to save preferences than on past versions). As nobody updated it for a while. I'm closing it.

If it still happens on Kaffeine 2.x, feel free to re-open.
