Description Sören Brunk 2013-04-27 15:30:56 UTC
When conncecting to an Android device with Dolphin via mtp protocol, I can't create new folders on the device. When I try to create a new folder via context menu or copy a folder to the device from disk, I get an error message like "Could not make folder <name>".

I get the same error with a Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8000) as well as with a Galaxy SII. I tried both internal and external SD card with the same result.

Creating folders on the commandline using mtp-newfolder from mtp-tools works fine except being very slow.

Just tell me if you need any debug output.

Reproducible: Always

kio-mtp version 0+git20130315-0ubuntu1
libmtp9 version 1.1.5-42-g6e96316-1ubuntu1

I can confirm this problem with a Galaxy S4.
Comment 2 Philipp Schmidt 2013-06-12 06:38:44 UTC
Hi, i finally found time to check and it happend with my S3 too. Don't know the cause yet, but I'll investigate.

I'm not sure what I did but I was able to create a folder through kio-mtp the other day. It seems to be errattic.

Same problem here with Nexus 4, offical Android 4.3, connect to Fedora 19 KDE.

But only can't create file/folder in toplevel folder, I can crete file/folder in subfolder, like "Download" or "Picture".

It also can't not replace/rename/edit file directly, only can delete it then add it again.

Yes, that seems to be the case, I was able to reproduce it now. I will try to fix is as soon as possible, but the next two weeks are a little bit hectic. But stay tuned.

> It also can't not replace/rename/edit file directly, only can delete it then add it again.

That is a completely different Problem, please open a new Bug. It might be that some devices also don't support renaming, in which case the kio-slave should fallback to automatic download/delete/reupload. But please open a new bug so we can discuss that there.

same here, it is possible to create files directly on the device but not with dolphin and kio-mtp
Comment 10 Philipp Schmidt 2013-10-21 07:55:55 UTC
Fixed in https://projects.kde.org/projects/playground/base/kio-mtp/repository/revisions/3f005590cb08f01fe395bcdd3d8ee76a0c1f4d99

Thanks to Marius Nicolae for sending the patch in.

The problem is half-fixed for me. It now can create folders but it gives the same error, also cancelling any file copy process in progress. When I refresh, the folder is there, and I can just drag and drop again and tell it to "Write Into" and continue the copy.

This problem is not fixed on Fedora 20 and KDE 4.11.3.
Comment 13 Christoph Feck 2013-12-14 23:38:42 UTC
Sudhir, kio_mtp is not yet part of the KDE Software Compilation. If you installed it from your distribution's repositories, ask them to update to lastest git version of kio_mtp.

Galaxy S5, problem persists
Comment 15 EMR_Kde 2016-06-13 02:17:15 UTC
KF5 though, so don't know if that makes a difference... like everything else with this framework
