Description mkkot 2013-04-19 10:27:51 UTC
How can I get to the trash bin files and functionality (empty it, configure, full icon and empty icon indicator)? Well, it is possible via Dolphin's sidebar and within Konqueror. Let's now imagine I'd like to make a shortcut to the trash bin on my desktop or plasma panel, whatever.

1. Drag and drop a trash bin icon from dolphin's sidebar causes all files from the trash are moved to the destination place.

2. Creating a shortcut to file or directory (trash:/) with right mouse button within a directory view says I have to create a shortcut to a URL.

3. Creating a link to a URL (trash:/) with right mouse button within a directory seems to work (trash bin icon appears, there is a menu to empty trash and configure it) but opening this link says that trash:/ is not a proper URL.

4. Trash bin plasmoid -- improper URL error appears when trying to open it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Drag and drop a trash bin icon from dolphin's sidebar to some other directory (for example /home/user/Desktop)
2. Click with right mouse button within a directory and select Create New -> Basic shortcut to a file or directory (sorry, I'm using a translated version), type trash:/ or select trash icon.
3. Click with right mouse button within a directory and select Create New -> Shortcut to a URL address, type trash:/ or select trash icon.
4. Add a trash bin plasmoid to the pannel or desktop and try to open it.
Actual Results:
1. Files from trash are moved to the destination
2. Dialog window appears with message that I should create an URL link
3. Says that trash:/ is a bad URL.
4. Says that trash:/ is a bad URL.

Expected Results:
1. Trash bit shortcut should be created effortless using any of these methods. User doesn't care if trash:/ is a URL or basic shortcut or plasmoid applet, whatever. It should JUST WORK.

I haven't figured out a way how to create a trash bin shortcut. It seems to impossible but I remember it worked someday with URL link option and trash bin plasmoid seems to be such a link which doesn't work now.

Adding the trashcan plasmoid is the preferred way. It should work, I see no functional bugs reported for it, I tried it quickly, and it worked as expected (opens Dolphin when clicking on it, you can empty it, and drag files into it).

Reassigning to plasma developers for inspection.

In 4.10.3 the plasmoid still doesn't work for me.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
