Description Marcelo Bossoni 2013-04-13 01:26:49 UTC
Some of my KDE sessions are unable to display window miniatures of opened windows in the task manager (even if I disable/reenable effects).
Others sessions works as expected and miniatures are displayed.
Sometime a logoff/login solves the problem.

I don't know which logs I should add to this bug report.

I'm running ArchLinux with latest updates.
My computer is a Phenom II X4 with an NVIDIA GTX 560 (I'm using proprietary drivers).

Reproducible: Sometimes

in case you are looking for user support you want to check http://forum.kde.org

That might just as well be https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/107983/
Comment 3 Marcelo Bossoni 2013-04-15 23:08:17 UTC
Hi there,
Got the bug again.
I ran the selectionwatcher testcase from the commit and I got only Compositing Activated/Deactivated.
I never got the "Compositing changed, is now" message. I don't know which cases it should trigger this signal.

The .xsession-errors print the following when I hover the mouse over the icon to generate window miniature/thumbnail

No miniatures shown on taskbar

Attached a picture showing the problem.
Notice that I'm with effects enabled.
Comment 6 Thomas Lübking 2013-04-16 07:44:02 UTC
test is very simple:
ensure compositing is active, then "kquitapp plasma-desktop; sleep 3; plasma-desktop"
if the thumbnails show up again: welcome to the selectionwatcher bug.
Comment 7 Marcelo Bossoni 2013-04-16 21:40:10 UTC
I ran the selectionwatcher test app and executed the command you sent.
I still get no "KWindowSystem: Compositing changed, is now" but miniatures started working after that.

So, as you mentioned, this is probably the selectionwatcher bug
