Hi, I have a stable system running 12.10 lts. A bunch of upgrades came in from the ppa and now I can't log in from the plasma welcome screen. I can log in at the command line though. Can anyone advise how to fix? I have run apt-get -f install but no change I re-installed plasma-scriptengines and then kde-workspace but no change I found a likely candidate for where it went wrong: debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Passthrough debconf: (Cannot connect to /tmp/qapt-sock: No such file or directory at (eval 24) line 3) debconf: falling back to frontend: NonInteractive Unpacking replacement kde ... I tried to reinstall kde and that didn't work ... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. installed PPA updates 2. Try to log in 3. Actual Results: Screen flashes to command line then returns to plasma logon Expected Results: KDE environment
Updated the code because I copied it wrong. debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Passthrough debconf: (Cannot connect to /tmp/qapt-sock: No such file or directory at (eval 24) line 3) debconf: falling back to frontend: NonInteractive Unpacking replacement kdm ... Obviously the gods of computing needed a rest. I selected the "default (previous)" option when I logged in and it has worked. I am relived if not really annoyed. Anyway, I will get over it. Thanks to those who tried to help.
