Description Yngve Levinsen 2013-04-02 09:01:30 UTC
I have a very annoying problem with Kile. I think it might be related to the new option in KDE 4.10 to have the menu as an "app icon" in the menu bar instead of a long row of text (File, Edit, Latex etc). Some of the entries in some of these menus disappear! In particular, I miss the "preferences" option under the "Settings Menu". See attached image, which is in Norwegian but I think you get the problem. I have now no way of fixing some wrong settings in Kile (maybe there is a shortcut I don't know of).

I have had this problem twice now, and it was in both cases triggered shortly after I had set the menu style to "titlebar button". Going back to default setting does not remove the problem, I still don't know of a way to get back the Preferences option (other than removing the entire ~/.kde4, perhaps it would suffice to remove some of the config files inside).

Sorry if some of my names for the menus are slightly off, I am not always sure what the English translation is. Please don't hesitate to ask if something is unclear or you need further information!

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to KDE settings and "Program looks", "Fine Tuning" and set the Menu bar style to "Titlebar button"
2. Open Kile and try to go to "Settings" and then "Preferences" are missing on my machine
3. If "Preferences" is still there (this happened once for me), you might need to restart Kile and perhaps you even need to restart the machine to trigger the bug.
Actual Results:
Menu bar items are gone

Expected Results:
Menu bar items are still there

Sorry for the noise, but I think I have misunderstood how to reproduce this bug.

First of all, if I delete ~/.kde4/share/apps/kile/kileui.rc then the bug is 'fixed'. What I did at the same time as having the menu as a button, was editing the toolbar, and this is triggering the bug consistently (tried three times now). I essentially only add the "Open recent projects" button to the main toolbar, but I cannot specifically say exactly which step is producing the bug. I attach the kileui.rc file.

I also noticed on one occation when switching back from the "menubar button" to the traditional one (after a restart), that the menu completely disappeared in kile. In order to resolve this issue I had to remove the file ~/.kde4/share/config/kilerc to get the menubar back. Cannot say what triggered this one though.
