In KDE 4.10 (kate 3.10), with new appmenu support, after switching to+from In Application Menubar style (System Settings -> Application Appearance -> Style -> Fine Tuning -> Menubar), Kate's menus will disappear. This bug applies equally to Kate and Kwrite. There may be other apps which are also affected (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=168070) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Kate 2. In system settings -> application appearance -> style -> Fine Tuning -> change Menubar style from In application to any other menubar style 3. Close Kate 4. Switch back to In application 5. Re-open Kate, Actual Results: Kate will no longer display menus Expected Results: Kate/kwrite should respect the global menubar setting and use whether it is set to In application or not to determine if it should display the menubar or not. Once they are gone they can be recovered by either opening ~/.kde/share/config/katerc, removing the Menubar=Disabled line and restarting kate; or switching menubar style from In application and back while kate is open.
I cannot reproduce, but things have changed in the System settings since KDE4 I guess. Eric: can you give an update on this? Tested on: Arch Linux 64-bit Kate 16.04.2 KDE Frameworks 5.22.0 Qt 5.6.1 xcb wm
Testing again, it looks like kwrite now works properly, but kate still exhibits the bug as described. I'm still on KDE 4, though, and don't have any systems updated to KDE 5 to test with, yet (hoping this fall when we switch to the next Ubuntu LTS, or maybe sooner whenever PCLOS gets KDE 5 working and avaliable). Kate 3.14.13 KDE 4.14.13 Ubuntu 14.04 QT 4.8.6
Ok, you can revisit this fall, then. Or maybe spin up a virtual machine to test even sooner :) Let's set this as NEEDSINFO to illustrate the situation.
Unfortunately, appmenu has not been ported to Plasma 5: bug 351813 Thus it would be unfair to keep this as NEEDSINFO.
Works in plasma 5 with global menu.
