Description Baconmon 2013-03-16 08:32:06 UTC
I have a few different filters set-up in syndication to download some tv shows..

The problem is, I don't have "Open torrent silently" checked on any of the filters, yet, it always constantly opens them automatically any way..

It has been doing this for weeks or months now, and it is driving me crazy.. I will check ktorrent and see that it has been downloading some thing for hours that some times I don't even want......because it didn't show the dialog that asks you if you want to download it or not..

Does any one know if there is any type of workaround for this until the actual bug gets fixed?.. Like maybe a file I can edit to let ktorrent know that "open torrent silently" is not checked??..

My ktorrent is getting ridiculous.. Every day I am downloading stuff that I don't even want.. Today I was gone for several hours, and came home to find some show completely downloaded, and had a share ratio of like 8.48 or some thing because it had been uploading so long..

That is a typical day.. NONE of my syndication filters have "open torrent silently" check-marked.. Yet it always does it any way..

So does any one know of the actual files I can edit, where it saves the syndication filters some where?..

There are global settings for opening torrents silently. The open all torrents silently option in the application settings to be specific. Make sure they are turned off.

Why did you mark it as invalid with out even hearing my response?!?.. You just assumed I was too stupid to have known about the global option already?.. I have never had the global option checked for opening them silently.. I'm telling you that there is a bug here.. I don't know how many people it does or doesn't affect, but for me, it is really annoying.. I have looked at every option every where to try to prevent it from happening.. The global option isn't checked, and neither is the option for the individual syndication torrent download thing.. Yet it will still add stuff automatically all the time..

I think maybe most people don't see this bug because, when most people add an item to the syndication plug-in, they want every thing it finds to automatically be downloaded..
So, you are probably wondering why I add a syndication item to ktorrent if I don't want to download it.. The reason is, some times I DO want it to download stuff, but some times the list source that I am using for the syndication plug-in takes a long time to update some times, and I will manually download an episode of a show my self.........So then when the list I have in the syndication plug-in finally updates, it tries to download the episode that I already have, so I don't need it to download that episode..

Now, I will say that some times it will still have the dialog box pop up asking if I want to download it or not, but then, for some reason, some times it just won't ask me at all, and just starts downloading stuff, even though the global option isn't checked, and every single one of my syndication items doesn't have "open silently" checked.. Believe me, I have checked every single one of them lots of times..

I don't know if this bug just doesn't affect very many people, or if most people just don't notice (because most people probably use the open silently option).. But I will give you any information that you need, or do any thing that you want me to.. If you don't feel like working on this bug your self, then don't.. I'm not forcing you to.. But please don't just mark it as invalid and assume I'm just too dumb to use ktorrent correctly, because it will never be fixed that way..

I checked, the code didn't see a path to how this could happen, and couldn't reproduce it. Maybe I was a bit quick to assume user error.

But I still can't reproduce it. It's also strange that it happens only sometimes. When this happens, are you doing something like typing ? Maybe the dialog pops up and you accidentally hit enter ? Or does it also happen when you are not actively using your computer ?
Comment 5 Baconmon 2013-05-04 22:19:39 UTC
It will happen when I am not even at the computer.. I am using this RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/eztv-rss-atom-feeds

For example, I just got back from spending the night at my mother's house, and I came back to see that ktorrent has been downloading "Touch.S02E12.720p.HDTV.x264-DIMENSION.mkv".. It already has a share ratio of 6.61, so it has already been done downloading for a long time, and had plenty of time to upload it to other people multiple times..

When I go in to my syndication settings, I go to the "Touch" filter I have set-up, and on the "Options" tab, the "open silently" check-box isn't checked.. And of course the global "open torrents silently" isn't checked either still..

I don't know why the code isn't seeing a path to how this could possible happen ever.. Is there any files I could attach that would help at all?.. Like, do the syndication filters have files related to them some where?.. Or is there a debug mode I can run ktorrent in and have it log stuff?.. I know that ktorrent tells the exact time when it adds a torrent..

I am using debian testing and I believe I use ktorrent just like a normal person would.. The only 2 things I do that might not be "normal" are: 1: I have a lot of syndication filters (about 25), and 2: I think most people probably check "open silently"..

One more question: Did ktorrent ever used to have different kinds of syndication filters?.. Like, when I upgraded ktorrent in the past, were there ever old syndication filters that were slightly incompatible or any thing?.. If the filters create related files when they are created, I would like to view them and see if mine look normal or not I guess..

On the other hand though, if no one else in the world has this problem, and you can't reproduce it, you can close it if you want to as "works for me" or some thing.. Who knows, maybe my computer has bit-rot some where or some other freakish anomaly.. I don't want you to spend lots of time on some thing if you can't really make any progress on it, and I seem to be the only person with this problem..

Could it be that that you are getting a match on multiple filters ? And one of them has open silently turned on ?

There have been changes to the file format. But with every change, this should have stayed compatible. And shouldn't result in any weird stuff.

I don't think it is matching multiple filters, because my RSS feed has tons of shows flowing through it constantly, and the only ones that are ever downloaded are the ones that I have filters for..

Any way, I think I might just try to delete every filter I have soon, and create them all again from scratch, and see if that helps or not I guess..

I'm on debian stable and for some reason KTorrent shows no plug-ins for me, and I don't use KTorrent any longer, so you can close this bug for now.. Thanks..
