I don't really know if this is a bug or just a removed feature, but for me this is a major grievance. Desktops are there for you to have things on and you must be able to move them according to your wish. - My old icons have a certain position along the left and right edges of the desktop. And there they remain and cannot be moved since kde 4.10. - Any new icons added to the desktop by dragging a file/folder to the edge line up in some other predefined distance form the edges, and then cannot be moved or resized either. So I have this really jagged, uneven, column of icons along my formerly orderly line of icons. I can move widgets, though, like the measuring apps for cpu, network etc. Just not the icons.. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Try to move an existing icon. (Good luck with that, by the way. :-) 2: Or, add a new icon to the desktop by drag-n-dropping a file/dir to either side edge of the desktop and choosing "icon". Then try to move this new icon, by dragging and dropping it to a new place on the desktop. (Oh, don't stay up too late trying...and don't forget to eat after a few hours.... :-) Actual Results: Nothing happens. It absolutely, positively, without fail, stays where it is. Period. Expected Results: - The icon is moved by normal drag-and-drop behaviour on the desktop. - The same goes for the resize feature from the popup menu for the icon shown on mouse-over (that circular arrow menu choice). It just doesnt work anymore.
Right-click on your desktop wallpaper and select unlock widgets.
When you click or drag a folder to the edge of the desktop, KDE4 transforms it into folder view type widget. In order for you you to move it you must move your mouse offset to the side of the icon. A border will appear. Click on this border to move it around your desktop. However, you MUST unlock the widgets on your desktop.
Ah, now i get it. Not exactly intuitive though is it. Or is it so you don't move things by mistake? Anyway, Thanks!! Created attachment 80975 [details] Widgets Menu I have uploaded the menu that you should see. However, I am using KDE 4.10.3 "release 1".
When you drag a folder to the edge of the screen you should see a small widgets dropdown menu. Widgets ------------ Folder View Stack Folder Shelf Icon Just remember everything on the desktop is represented by a plasma widget. I would recommend asking about these issues on the KDE4 forum. They also have a lot of documentation.
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
