Description Purupuputa 2013-03-14 02:29:16 UTC
I have long been waiting to see if they fix the problem with dark themes. Currently you can get very nice effects and adjust colors perfectly in dark tones, but there are some very bad as the web browser and other applications are corrupted with touches of dark matter, leaving a ghastly appearance.

I've never been able to remedy this by adding a patch rather than provisional and ineffective in the Firefox settings folder or even doing other things being loaded for certain applications, something that really leaves a lot to be desired.

I think for this latest version of KDE would be great that even using dark colored subjects had no problem with parts as web forms, among other LibreOffice documents.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Change KDE theme color to one dark avaliable by default or create a new one.
2. Open LibreOffice or see any web forms in Firefox or another web browser.
3. Some parts are very ugly or unreadable. The dark themes fuck up the appearence completly in most cases.
Actual Results:
I can't read many web form parts, LibreOffice documents, etc.

Expected Results:
I wanna a nice and beauty result with dark colors like when using light colors.

Is a serious problem that affects to many KDE users and fixing this problem you will achieve that we love KDE even more. Actually we can't configure the appearence to our pleasure because we break many application.

Do you mind attaching some screenshots?

Neither LibreOffice nor Firefox are KDE applications. Are you saying that if you configure dark colors in GNOME, that LibreOffice works differently than when you use dark colors in KDE?

No, I only said that many applications take ugly colors from KDE color theme and make it unreadable or very ugly. Its the same using Konqueror, Firefox, Operar or another.

In GNOME if we use dark colors the applications take dark colors too, but we don't must speak about GNOME in KDE.... I'm interested in KDE fixing.

Thank you very much.

To understand you correctly, you want Firefox to ignore users' color preferences, and start using hard-coded colors, just because many websites do the same?

Yes, Firefox, Opera and other web browsers must ignore the color theme preferences in form imputs, textareas and buttons. Other applications have similar problems when using dark themes in KDE.

I still do not understand how this is KDE related. If you want browsers not to respect the color settings, you should report it to the developers of those browsers.

Can you clarify what KDE developers should do with this entry?

Hi,

Purupuputa is true.

The problem is the same in reconq, which is the default KDE web browser.

If you are using a dark theme, edit background and text are about the same colors, so every text zone become unusable, and there is no way to change this.

Other QT apps seems to be affected too :

Well, since this problem is still lurking around, I would like to point out that it seems the problem is related to kde and oxygen-gtk at two situations:

- KDE application using "Window text"/"Window background" on panels and decorations that need some input - when this happens an input field is created and on that cases "View text"/"View background" should be used. It happens, for example, in dolphin when you try to rename a folder and click on folders panel to do it, the color of input text is not set to "View text" color, as it should, but the background is set to "View background". This happens on other KDE applications too. I think it would be wise to have the proper behavior specified on some place;

- oxygen-gtk is returning "Window text"/"View background" when asked about the colors of client windows on cases where exist an input field there, it should be "View text"/"View background", it seems.

I will create a patch to try to correct this behavior to see if an easy fix is possible.

Best regards,
André

I also can confirm that problem is still exists.
For, example, drop-down list box in default kde 5 apps (such as desktop wallaper settings) is unusable with dark themes (breeze-dark, for example) due to wrong colors.

Alexey, please report Plasma 5 bugs separately for product "plasmashell".

The same problem is still existing with plasma 5.4. In wallpaper settings, we have white text on white background in the choice lists when dark themes are used.

Please report color issues separately.
