Description avi9526 2013-03-08 23:40:00 UTC
Dolphin try make thumbnails and get media-information for media files in WebDAV storage mounted to file-system with davfs2 which is cause freeze of Dolphin GUI and network usage (Dolphin cause downloading of all media files in directory).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get some WebDAV storage (I make test with ownCloud running on my PC).
2. Place some video files (size>100MiB) to this cloud storage through web-interface.
3. Mount this WebDAV storage with davfs2 (I do this using this RU manual http://help.ubuntu.ru/wiki/davfs2)
4. Enable video and other media thumbnailing-plugins in Dolphin.
5. Open location, where WebDAV was mounted, with Dolphin.
6. Check for interface freeze and network usage (You may receive message in system log that davfs2 is out of cache)
Actual Results:
After this steps my Dolphin freeze and network usage was at max. All media files was downloaded to davfs2 cache and I get it's thumbnails in Dolphin

Expected Results:
Dolphin should not try retrieve any extra information from such files, since this is remote storage and downloading of all video files can be inappropriate

Ubuntu 12.10 with updates from "kubuntu-ppa/backports" installed.

Thanks for the bug report. Please note:

a) If there was a forum discussion before a bug was filed, it makes sense to add a link to it:

https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=223&t=110289

b) This is not a Dolphin issue. KFileItem decides if a file system is slow or fast -> reassigning.

Can you see if doing what I stated at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299307#c1 helps ?
