Description John Hunter 2013-03-02 21:47:12 UTC
I have just tried to play selected tracks from a CD which is CD25 from Volume 5 of the complete works of Johann Sebastion Bach. The complete set (No 93102) consists of 155 CDs 2558 tracks in all. When I fired up KsCD it spent about 5 minutes before it settled down and displayed the track information of the very first track of the set! I then clicked on the Playlist icon; this caused it to go into a sulk for another couple of minutes before displaying all 2558 tracks in apparently a random order -- not very useful! Eventually, I managed to play the required tracks by sucessive clicking on the "fast forward" button.

May I make the following suggestion to make this "App" more useful:
1) When the "track list" button is clicked it should only display the tracks on the CD in the machine;
2) It would help with the current track identification if the play progress bar were to display the total play time of the track actually being played. I would also help if it were to show the name of the actual being played in stead of some random track from another CD in the set.

To its credit, KsCD did play from the CD (93102/131). Amorak just gave up.

All software v4.8.5-0ubuntu0.1

This is a duplicate of bug #199893 and would be fixed by porting kscd to libmusicbrainz5
Comment 2 Christophe Fergeau 2014-06-11 11:41:30 UTC
Ah, sorry, I misread that other bug, this is not a duplicate. However, this bug would most likely fixed by using libmusicbrainz5 instead of libmusicbrainz3, this bug is probably related to what is described there for example:
http://forums.musicbrainz.org/viewtopic.php?pid=18945#p18945
"The problem is that the NGS schema changes were so big that we couldn't provide full backwards compatibility. The way most CD rippers look up discs makes it nearly impossible for us to do anything about it, the queries they do simply don't give us enough information to be able to mimic the old behaviour. The result is that the affected programs end up seeing the tracks from the first disc no matter which disc of the release they look up and the only real solution is for those programs to use the new webservice."

libmusicbrainz5 handles this new webservice.
