From bug/comment https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259949#c308 Results from data show double results. This problem is minor, but would be nice if there was a solution to. Examples: Liselotte Meier <liselotte.meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Liselotte Meier <Liselotte.meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Liselotte Meier <liselotte.Meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Liselotte Meier <Liselotte.Meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Frau Liselotte Meier <liselotte.meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Dr. Liselotte Meier <liselotte.meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Even though it is all the same email address, they all show up in results. Ideally there should be only one result showing up and if that result is in addressbook, it should not show up at all. Reproducible: Always
I try to fix to save all emails as lower case in 4.10.1 I hope that I didn't forget a place.
then this leaves the Variation of what is standing in front of the email address as a problem? Lise <liselotte.meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Liselotte Meier <liselotte.meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Dr. Liselotte Meier <liselotte.meier@ausgedachtedomain.de> Suggestion: If there is no better solution and it is possible. If there are multiple results for the same address, - the one in the addressbook is shown only - if there is no result in the addressbook, the multiple results are only shown the first time. The second time, only the one result is shown, which the user selected the first time.
Variation of the name outside of the email address is not a problem. The system cannot guess which version of the name is the correct one. I see this "bug" as a feature. The local mailbox portion of an email is case sensitive, per RFC 2821. They should be treated as seperate email addresses. See: http://email.about.com/od/emailbehindthescenes/f/email_case_sens.htm It might seem like in practice you can combine the results based on a lowercase version, but it will be completely broken when you hit a rare exception. I don't think it is a problem to scan the list for the right email address. If the system suggests the most recently used version first, I rarely need to go past the first entry.
This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present? If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
I don't see this problem on recent releases.
Thanks for your feedback, resplin.
