top is Konsole - bottom is a regular terminal emulator on a PC

I am using Suse 12.2 with KDE environment. We are trying to use Konsole as a terminal emulator into a server (SCO Unix box 5.0.6). We are using a BBx Pro5 compiler. The compiler has the ability to use line graphics. The primary emulation is scoansi or ansi.

Using a Windows PC with any terminal emulator (TinyTerm, HyperACCESS, ICE, etc), we just set the emulation to ansi or scoansi, and it works perfect. With Konsole we cannot do this.

When we changed the Environment variable $TERM to any value, it ignores the $TERM value and goes straight to the profile. We cannot set the profile to handle the line graphics. We can set the rest of the control keys. We tried to create a new profile and ripped out all the values, hoping that it would turn to the $TERM. But, this didn't work either. There are 2 million users that use this compiler, and cannot use Konsole.

There are a couple ways to resolve the issue. Encoding might be the best way to resolve it. Another way is to allow the user to put in the termcap label and value. Another way would be to force it to use the termcap first and override with the profile values. You could also use emulation types like VT100, ansi, scoansi, wy60, etc. Virtually all terminal emulators have this.

I have some termcaps if you need them. I can also be reached at 888-475-5044 - Mike

Hi Mike, I'm a bug triager.

It's been a while for this bug. I looked at the current version of Konsole (18.08.1) and see that you can set the TERM variable within Konsole Profiles.

If you go to Settings > Edit Current Profile and click the Edit... button where it says Environment:, you can set the TERM= variable. I set mine to ansi, restarted Konsole, and ran 'echo $TERM'. It appears to stick.

Could you give that a try and let us know?
