Description Simon Andric 2013-02-11 23:47:41 UTC
hello!

like i reported in:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=308583

the kded after reboot displays dr. konqi with bug report which only has either 1 or 2 stars out of 3. becuase kded service is not started i cannot log in with dr. konqi and i have to report this bug manually :)

i suspect it has to do sth with notifier widget in default panel - it worked flawlessly while my monajat-applet was malfunctioning - as reported in:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/monajat/+bug/1117651

then all of a sudden monajat-applet started to work, but immediately kded started to have problems - it crashed during reboot and even if i typed "kded4" in konsole (without root or sudo) it just brought up dr. konqi again. i think it has to do with fact that monajat-applet every 10 minute sends a random quote from qur'an through notifier and when it gets to number around 26 or 27 ... it has problem. maye im wrong i dont know ....im not really expert.. i just know before when monajat-applet didnt work, kded was ok :) maybe its related or maybe not...

nice day
Simon :)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. restart computer or type "kded4" in konsole
2. dr. konqi apeears
3.

Comment 17 Alex Fiestas 2013-02-12 11:07:01 UTC
There is an issue with your VGA-0 monitor, it is NOT reporting any preferred mode.

If you update to a recent version (from 1-2 days ago) of libkscreen this issue should be fixed. I recommend though upgrade both libkscreen and kscreen.

Thanks for reporting !

Hi,

Please clone latest sources from git and build and install them:

git clone git://anongit.kde.org/libkscreen
cd libkscreen
mkdir build && cd build
cmake .. -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug
make
sudo make install # will install to /usr/local/

Do the same for kscreen.

Then please try to reproduce the issue. With the Debug build, you should also get more valid backtrace (2 or 3 stars). You don't have to report further crashes with just one star, as they are apparently all the same. Thanks for your help!

hello!

tried new kscreen on my computer and now it works - doesnt show that error anymore.

But its like this...logn screen all of a sudden is a low quality - 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024 like before - also it ONLY displays on my VGA, and NOT also on my HDMI - this was also like this before although i think it should show on both screens.

what is interesting now is what happens after i type the password and press ENTER. the login screen turns into splash screen which stays 1024 x 768 - at the same time my hdmi (which by default is 1920 x 1080) becomes 1024 x 768 - big streched icons...for a few seconds - but then becomes completely black (HDMI) while VGA becomes 1280x1024 BUT the splash screen stays 1024x768 - at first it tiles into 4 (2x2) splash screens and then just one - the right and bottom side of the monitor which now has bigger resolution is during this time black - and it is like this that then correct VGA and HDMi desktop appears... as far as im concerned it desnt bother me - my sytem works...but its not eye pleasant :)

i have desktop-base installed and i use their "joy" login + splash screen.

plus by default the kscreen tries to CLONE desktop which is wrong - 4/3 and 16/9 desktop should never be cloned.... by default...it causes one of them to appear distorted...

nice day! :)

You should open a new bugs for these new issues (splash not re-sizing is a problem of kplash not ours). The neon question should be asked to neon developers.

SInce it does not crash anymore going to set the bug as fixed.

Thanks for reporting !
