Description Paul Eggleton 2013-02-07 16:18:19 UTC
Since upgrading to KDE 4.10 including Kontact 4.10, I can no longer see any of my previously entered calendar events, todo list items, or journal entries. I can see they still exist in ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics and items appear to be listed in akonadiconsole, it just appears that they aren't being shown within Kontact. The checkbox next to "Personal calendar" resource is ticked, and I have no view filters set up.

I can create new items and they do get saved and shown, it's just the existing items it seems to be having trouble showing.

Reproducible: Always

FYI, I'm still getting reminders for my recurring calendar events with reminders set.

Today I started up my machine, ran Kontact and the items are now visible again. I don't know what to make of this behaviour. Mark this bug as resolved if you wish but clearly something went initially wrong in the transition from 4.9.x to 4.10.
Comment 3 Paul Eggleton 2013-05-24 10:33:05 UTC
I experienced this issue again with 4.10.2; I'm not entirely sure what changed between it working and not working (it was some time and many restarts after the upgrade), but again I couldn't see any calendar entries in the agenda view, nor any entries in the journal, and yet I was still getting reminders. The sole calendar resource I have is enabled, marked as default and points to the correct ics file which contains entries.

However, I did just edit the calendar entry and change its "display name" which was blank, and either as a result of doing that or simply re-saving the entry (can't tell which) the calendar and journal entries are now visible again. I've tried resetting the name back to blank and restarting akonadi, but the issue has not returned. There is clearly still a bug here but reproducing it might not be straightforward.

It's worth noting that at all times the name shown in the calendar selection pane within Kontact has remained "Personal Calendar" rather than whatever display name was set. On the other hand, when the problem was occurring, separately the list in the Calendars tab of the calendar settings in kontact showed "Personal Calendar"; when I set the value to "Calendar1" it showed "Calendar1", but when I set it back to blank it has remained as "Calendar1". I'm not sure if this is related to the issue at hand but it is unusual behaviour nonetheless.

Never seen this behavior

I confirm this. I have a SoGo remote calendar and got an invitation that I accepted. This special entry shows up in the Web Interface of my SoGo Calendar, it shows up in Akonadiconsole, it shows up on my Meego N9 phone, but it does not show up in korganizer part of kontact. I tried to do "update folder (F5) on the Calendar in kontact. No change.
With Akonadiconsole, I moved the entry to my local address book. It doesn't show up. All attempts to F5/reload in kontact failed. I moved the entry back to the SoGo Calendar. Now in Akonadiconsole I said "Synchronize Collection Tree" and the entry magically showed up in kontact. I will try to reproduce once it happens again.

I've seen this with invitations that don't have a DTSTART

we don't support invalid ical. you might try sending us the ical that doesn't show in KOrganizer

None of mine show up, new or old, but the reminders do pop up for the calendar or the to do list. Kontact is 4.14.1 and KDE 4.14.2

I just did a restore of my entire home directory onto a new system (Fedora 21, previous system was Fedora 20). I could see some of my items, but not others - e.g. all of my todo list items that were priority 2 or above seemed not to be showing up (the priority could just have been coincidence with the actual cause, though). I took a look at the items in the ics file, as far as I could tell the only difference between a newly created todo item and an existing invisible one was that the ORGANIZER field was set, but again, that could have just been coincidence. The invisible todo entries were NOT listed under the calendar in akonadiconsole (visible ones were, obviously).

As with the earlier episode, renaming the calendar resource seems to have fixed the problem - the items are now showing up in KOrganizer and they also now show up in akonadikonsole as well.

FWIW, entries in my ical file were all added by KOrganizer (various versions), so "invalid" data ought not to be a concern, but I guess it's possible something in the file is bad. I'd be happy to send my ics file to someone privately if it helps; it seems to me based on what just happened that it ought to be reproducible (I should be able to get a copy of the ics file as it was on my old system so we can rule out any subsequent changes).

Paul, could you please explain how to rename the calendar - and hopefully To-do resource as well - neither are showing up for me since upgrading including when I make new ones.
Comment 10 Nancy Anthracite 2015-04-15 11:12:27 UTC
Never mind. I figured it out. I copied ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics to another .ics but your hint got me looking around and I found the std.ics icon on the Calendar page and checked the box in front of it (which I had not realized was a check box) and everything appeared in the calendar and the to-do lists. I am not sure how I missed that previously. My new.ics did not appear in the list next to the std.ics but it did not matter because everything stayed fine even after I deleted it.

This bug has never been confirmed for a Kontact version that is based on KDE Frameworks (5.x). Those versions differ significantly from the old 4.x series. Therefore, I plan to close it in around two or three months. In the meantime, it is set to WAITINGFORINFO to give reporters the oportunity to check if it is still valid. As soon as someone confirms it for a recent version (at least 5.1, ideally even more recent), I'll gladly reopen it.

Please understand that we lack the manpower to triage bugs reported for versions almost two years beyond their end of life.
Comment 12 Denis Kurz 2018-02-01 09:47:44 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.1 aka 15.12; preferably much more recent), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
