Description Manu 2013-02-01 11:32:04 UTC
This only happens if the "Terminal Panel" is active...

I start Dolphin and "root" is selected (hightlighted) in the "Places panel" even though Dolphin starts up showing the home folder. If I click another place in the "Places panel" Dolphin properly shows the content of the corresponding folder on the right (and the selected place is properly hightlighted in the "Places panel"). However, after maybe one second or a couple the highlighted place in the "Places panel" is again the root folder (and I can see Dolphin switching the selection), though the folder whose content is shown doesn't change.

If I hide the root entry from the "Places panel", then Dolphin automatically selects nothing in the situation described above.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start dolphin with the "Terminal Panel" enabled
2. Click some place in the "Places panel"
3.
Actual Results:
The contents of the selected place are shown but after a few time instants, the selected place is not highlighted anymore and root gets highlighted.

Expected Results:
The clicked place whose content is being shown should remain selected.

Thanks for the report. What is your exact KDE version?

Thank you very much for your prompt reply!!

My KDE version is 4.9.5. Also, I forgot to mention that this was not happening in KDE 4.9.3.

Sorry for the late response. I cannot reproduce the problem. Can you still reproduce it in KDE 4.10.3? Moreover, does your folder hierarchy contain symbolic links?
Comment 4 Manu 2013-05-12 12:30:10 UTC
It still happens in KDE 4.10.2 (KDE 4.10.3 is not stabilised yet in Gentoo). And yes, I have symbolic links in my folder hierarchy: my /home/ directory is actually a symbolic link to /usr/local/.home. Now that you mention, there is a connection since every time I select the "home" entry in the places panel, shortly afterwards the selected entry switches automatically to /usr/local.

Thanks for the quick reply. It looks a lot like a duplicate of the symbolic link issue bug 302037 then, which is fixed in KDE 4.10.3. In the (hopefully unlikely) case that you still see this problem after upgrading to 4.10.3, please let us know. Thanks for your help!
