Description Christian 2013-01-29 19:27:35 UTC
I have the keyboard shortcut K set up to mark a message as read. (Shift-K to mark as unread.) It worked fine in 4.9.3. Gentoo upgraded to 4.9.5, and now the "Mark as read" shortcut no longer works. When I type K on a message in the message list, I get a popup that says that:

The key sequence 'K' is ambiguous. Use 'Configure Shortcuts'
from the 'Settings' menu to solve the ambiguity.
No action will be triggered.

However, I have looked through the whole list of Configure Shortcuts, and there is no other shortcut with key K. (Also, I haven't changed any shortcuts since upgrading to 4.9.5.)

More info. I tried to set the corresponding shortcut to "K" (it said in the settings that the shortcut was "K", but because it didn't work I set it again).
Upon the next startup of Kontact, the shortcut was forgotten (and didn't work any more). In the settings it just said for "Mark as Read": Default (none).
Now I can set it to "K" and it works for a while, but upon clicking away the Kontact window, the shortcut is set to "none" again. (And doesn't work.)
I'm not sure if it's specific to the "Mark as Read" action, or to the "K". But it is a bug that the setting is not saved.
Also, I'm not sure if this is the same bug. But when I use the "Fancy" layout for the email list, the one that shows a small "unread" symbol on the list for unread messages. Also the clicking action on the unread symbol doesn't work. (As if it required the "K" shortcut instead of doing it via a click.)

Works fine here.
I can set K as 'Mark as read" and stop/start kontact and shortcut is here.
So for the moment Don't know why it doesn't work for you.

Dear Laurent, thanks for checking. It still doesn't work here. The upgrade to 4.9.5 broke it.
I have set the shortcut to 'L' now, that works but it's hard to remember.
I've tried setting it back to K, but Kontact doesn't remember it. When I set it to 'K', it shows 'K' in the settings dialog, but when I close the settings dialog, it is still bound to 'L' key. When I open the settings dialog again, the setting is shown as 'L'.
I thought, maybe 'K' became bound to some other action, but when I hit 'K' now, nothing happens. And in the settings dialog, there is no other action with a key assignment 'K'.
If it helps, let me know where the keyboard shortcuts are stored and I can upload that configuration file. Maybe it contains corruption that was caused by upgrade to 4.9.5?

Not sure if this is related. By accident, I just noticed that in the Akgregator part of Kontact, the shortcut 'K' has an effect. (It scrolls out the view of a message by something like half a line.)
However, that action or shortcut is not listed in the Akgregator shortcuts in the settings dialog.
Could this be the reason why KMail does not accept the 'K' shortcut when I assign it to Mark as Read?

Now it seems to work, the 'K' shortcut is remembered. I don't know why.

so we can close it ?

reopen if you can reproduce it
