Description karl.r.ernst 2013-01-27 11:45:53 UTC
The freeze occurs when closing gwenview. It happens occasionally, but not always, unfortunately I haven't found a way to reproduce it. I never experience similar freezes with other programs.

During the freeze, the mouse is still responsive (for moving), but I can't click anything. Keyboard is entirely unresponsive (so nothing works, neither CTRL+ALT+DEL nor CTRL+ALT+F1), and so is the power button. Programs like audio player or torrent seem to continue to run tough.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. View image in gwenview
2. Close gwenview
Actual Results:
Close gwenview

Expected Results:
Screen freezes

Since the complete screen freezes I am unable to provide any more useful information. Since ssh might still work I may be able to log into the frozen computer, but I am unsure what I can do from there.

Correction: after browsing the syslog it seems that the system tried to shutdown, but xdm refused to stop, leaving the screen open

As a workaround you could try to set "Animations" to "None" (under Settings -> Configure Gwenview -> Image View).
Comment 4 Benni Hill 2013-04-02 18:27:33 UTC
Is this still the case with newer versions of the nvidia driver (and gwenview)?
