Description William L. Thomson Jr. 2013-01-22 18:47:12 UTC
I recently created a folder for a new client, and moved messages from another folder to that one, and from my inbox. Everything seemed to go well. though a few messages remained in the other folder, and in the new folder. They were not removed when they were moved. Now today I go to look in that folder and it is empty. The folder on disk is empty as well. I cannot believe I just lost all those emails. Kmail is a total piece of crap!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Create new folder
Move messages to new folder
Actual Results:
Messages remained in old folders, and were duplicated from new folder. Then disappeared entirely!

Expected Results:
When moving messages from one folder to another, they should be removed from the origin and added to the destination, and remain. They should not disappear after being moved. Nor should they remain in the old folder after being moved to a new one.

Sorry to hear KMail lost your mails! Could you specify what kind of folders they were, IMAP, POP, etc.?
Comment 2 William L. Thomson Jr. 2013-04-23 00:01:00 UTC
They were local folders on my local disk, ~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory/. Turns out to be an issue with backends, sqlite, which should not have been used. It was set to the default on Gentoo and seems to have caused all of my issues. Having since switched to mysql, I have moved tons of emails and never lost one, much less an entire folder.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

This is still occurring, not sure about with my current version 4.14.20, but few months back I did lose my entire inbox. I had some emails in there for months. The inbox/folder did not have that many emails, ~20-30 max. I can get the exact date and I think version from irc and install logs.

William, the version you use is still much too old, sorry. Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.

I run the latest versions available in Gentoo, not stable. I run masked versions at times to help test. It has been a while since I encountered this.

Presently on 16.08.3

Version 5.3.3 (QtWebEngine)
Using:
KDE Frameworks 5.28.0
Qt 5.7.0 (built against 5.7.0)
The xcb windowing system

I have 16.12.0 built on my dev server just have not installed it yet. Been running behind desktop on updates. I will update to the latest available ASAP. I try to stay pretty current, but do keep servers more up to date then desktops.

Closing is fine, I can reopen if I experience it again.

This occurred again with my inbox I filed a new bug 377070.

I wish this was taken more seriously. This seems to happen at times for no reason as happened with my inbox....
