Description William L. Thomson Jr. 2013-01-22 17:23:51 UTC
I have been dealing with this for some time across many versions. Not sure if its an Akanodi issue or kmail2. I think its more a backend than front end issue. For some reason emails are getting munged/messed up bad. Some the entire body is missing. Here is a couple that the body remains, but the subject, and other information is missing. This is REALLY annoying and I have lost MANY email due to this. I must say kmail is one of the WORST email clients I have ever used. I can't even get auto completion to work from my contact list. Stupid semantic desktop, always has problems indexing my massive amount of emails. Not to mention keeps my system hot and wasting electricity all the time.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Check email
Actual Results:
New emails are messed up upon arrival into kmail.

Expected Results:
Emails arrive intact as they are sent, without any modification.

At least these two screenshots the emails still had their body. Many times the file is completely empty. Though it was not sent empty from the mail server.

This is the same email from the first attachment. However now the email is gone for good, you can see what information was there, is no more. This is HORRIBLE!!!! I have no problems with losing any other data, just kmail screwing up emails upon arrival.

I have lost entirely over 20 emails today alone. I am done with this CRAP!!! Switching to a real email client, this is a JOKE!

Look like a duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298962.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

I have not experienced this in some time, or I would have commented on the bug. I think it might have to do with filling or full disks/partitions. Where there is enough for a record to exist about the email in a database, but not to store the email on disk. Otherwise I have no idea how to replicate and have not experienced in some time.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Closing here, since you've been the only reporter anyway.

Others may not run into this. But I think you can replicate by storing Kmail2 maildir folders on a full partition. I bet that will replicate the issue. Seemed to record an entry in akonadi but the email was empty on file. Maybe should have errored out etc vs show empty email.

The empty email was pulled from server, so it was not recoverable after. Thus the need for an error vs current action. Its likely a one off scenario as mostly likely use a single large partition or other. But I believe the problem still exists and could be replicated by having a partition without enough free space to store and incoming email. But enough space for akonadi to record the email and attempt to fetch it, just unable to write to disk.
