By clicking on "K" in application launcher and then typing some text one can search for application by its name. This is a very useful feature. However, it is broken. The search results are almost unpredictable and the search often does not see applications unless user types the same thing several times. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. click on the "K" button to open the application launcher 2. start typing the name of the program 3. also try deleting some characters and type them back (Tried on a fresh install of Kubuntu 12.10) Actual Results: The results of the search are almost arbitrary. By typing or removing a character I can get one of three possible combinations: * nothing at all * "Synaptic" application * "Synaptic" application and "run synaptic" * "run synaptic" Expected Results: 1. the results of the search should depend solely on what's in the search field 2. even if a few characters of the name were provided the applications should be listed (most relevant of them if the list is big) 3. "run synaptic" should be lower (as it is less relevant) than "synaptic application"
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding! Nate Graham
