I open Kvkbd and nothing is shown, in Ubuntu i have Onboard, that is a virtual keyboard and this actually shows up in screen, I don't understand why kvkbd shows nothing. I use to have Debian Stable with KDE 4.4.5 installed and the keyboard actually shows on screen, when I launch kvkbd, but with these versions of KDE since 4.7.x nothing shows up. The only thing that I have is the system tray icon and the menu with its options, when I choose "embed keyboard" I see a very little keyboard, but that is just a bitmap not the keyboard. I report this bug becasue I can't find anything related on the internet. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Kvkbd. 2. Vuala! no keybord on screen. Actual Results: Nothing comes up in the screen. Expected Results: I expected to have a keyboard in my desktop. This issue might be related with bug 297020, but if that message is inoffensive, then the problem could be another.
So in system tray, you have a kvkbd symbol, with a popup menu? Try left-clicking the symbol, or in the menu, choose "Restore".
I've tried my friend but even when I click that option, the keyboard is not shown, that's the reason of this report. Even when I start, Kvkbd, the option in the menu is not 'Restore', is 'Minimize', but I cannot see any keyboard on my desktop. But maybe ths bug is not KDE related, because I have another distros on my hard drive with KDE installed. Kvkbd in Fedora 16 with KDE 4.8.5 shows the keyboard on screen, in opeSuse with KDE 4.9.0 shows the keyboard as well too, Debian 6.0 as I said, with KDE 4.4.5 even shows the keyboard. This virtual keyboard only fails in Ubuntu packages apparently, I used to have Ubuntu 11.10 which included KDE 4.7.1 as default, the keyboard never appeared on the screen, as I made the package upgrades from the Kubuntu KDE repository, it never showed up.
It seems to me that the keyboard is outside the screen if I change display resolution. This is reproducible: Set a big resolution, move keyboard to lower right edge, set a low resoluation. Voila, the keyboard is invisible.
