I've been using Tomboy for storing notes centrally, and I've been looking for a way to avoid the gnome/mono dependencies that come with it. Having the option to sync notes directly into an imap account (or really, any way to store them via an external source, like webdav too) is something that is becoming more and more widely adopted, and sadly it's missing in Kontact/Kjots.

Surely notes were saved here in Maildir/ format so that eventually they can be stored via email/imap? It's unfortunate it's not there yet.

I have come up with a "dirty" workaround of a symlink of ~/.local/share/notes/ to a folder synced on owncloud on all systems, but it seems to eat notes occasionally, as this is not ideal for two-way syncing. Facilitating a sync to imap makes this a much more supportable way to sync across systems. It also opens the door to the possibility of emailing to the imap account, and having it automatically create notes on Kjots as a result.

KJots has been retired for almost a year, all bugs for it are being closed.

Quoting the public announcement
https://kontact.kde.org/blog/2024/2024-07-01-kde-pim-may-june-2024/#retiring-kjots-and-knotes

We have decided to retire the KJots and KNotes applications. These applications have not seen any support or development in many years and are not in a state that we feel comfortable shipping to our users. With the introduction of Marknote, KDE can now offer a modern, well-maintained note-taking application that we can recommend users to migrate to. The latest release of Marknote has gained support for importing notes from KJots and KNotes, so no notes will be lost.
