Description mattm3a 2012-12-23 16:34:04 UTC
Sometimes when a wallet is opened and the correct password is entered, the window is entirely empty. When this occurs, no kwallet can be opened successfully, even after quitting the application and restarting. A reboot is required to get wallets to open again normally. No loss of data in the wallet occurs.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Do you have any suggestions for how to collect more information on this bug?
Comment 2 Christoph Feck 2013-01-21 22:32:59 UTC
Sorry, no. You might ask in a forum, if other people had seen the same issue, and if they found out how to reproduce. I never had this problem.
Comment 3 Markus Blaschke 2013-01-22 09:31:25 UTC
I can confirm this bug, sometimes my wallet in kwalletmanager is empty. If this happens kwalletmanager asks every time for the password for this "opened" wallet but the wallet never opens.

Kopete is unable to fetch the password and stay offline (but don't asks for any passwords).
Akonadi seems to work, however but all other applikations cannot fetch any passwords.

Re-login or kill of kwalletd helps.

Ubuntu 12.10
KDE SC 4.9.5
(all updates installed)
confirmed on at least 2 or 3 workstations.

PS: Maybe related to other akonadi issues?

Found something in .xsession-errors:

nepomukservicestub: No service name specified
nepomukservicestub: Use --help to get a list of available command line options.
unnamed app(2794): Communication problem with "kwalletmanager" , it probably crashed.

4.10 also seems to have problems with kwallet
Comment 6 Bastian Senst 2013-03-07 16:37:08 UTC
I have (I think) the same problem here. The wallet does not seem to open at all. The next time the opening dialog appears, it already has the password in the password line edit.

On both openSUSE 12.3 and openSUSE 12.2 with KDE 4.10

Is killing kwalled related process (see ps aux|grep kwalletd) and starting it by hand fixing things for you?
Comment 8 Bastian Senst 2013-03-13 21:41:37 UTC
Killing kwalletd fixes the problem for me.
Comment 9 mattm3a 2013-03-25 20:43:35 UTC
Killing kwalletd and restarting kwallet fixes the problem for me too.
Comment 10 Aleksei Gusev 2013-03-31 07:53:55 UTC
I also can confirm this bug. The only thing I can add is that after killing kwalletd you must restart the applications which use kwallet (kde telepathy, akonadi and etc). Maybe this is obvious for developer, but I found out this hard way. ;)

Not sure if this is important either, but I see the following warning when I run kwalletd from terminal:

QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.

I have not found a good way to reproduce this.

Last time I got it it was kmail(kontact) that gave 12 notifications in a very short time.
Other times when I have triggered the bug was when I waited to long to give password after login.

Is there a more reliable way to trigger this?
Comment 13 mattm3a 2013-07-30 13:48:57 UTC
Unfortunately, I have not found a reliable way to trigger this problem. I have seen it happen right after logging into KDE, and I formerly used kmail, so it could be related to either kmail notifications or password entry time.
Comment 14 David Heijkamp 2013-08-04 11:31:09 UTC
I have a similar problem when Telepathy / KTP is the first application trying to open my wallet after login. The wallet won't respond and after opening the wallet in Kwalletmanager, it seems to be empty. After killing kwalletd Kwallet Manager is, like any other application, able to open the wallet again.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this bug might be related to bug 254198
