Description Karthik Periagaram 2012-12-18 17:11:18 UTC
This is a wishlist for enabling a small preview of a non-highlighted tab to appear when the mouse is hovered over the tab. This is similar to the "Taskbar Thumbnails" effect in kwin or the preview shown by rekonq of tabs in the background.

This will allow the user to see the contents of a window by simply hovering over the tab in the titlebar, without having to switch to that application. Additionally, this will enable rekonq-like previewing to be available to any application that can be tabbed, thus enhancing the overall usability of our desktop.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open two windows and tab them together using kwin's tabbing function.
2. Hover over the tab in the background.
Actual Results:
No preview window appears under the tab showing the contents of that window. The sure will have to click on each tab to see the contents of the window. The usability is increased if one could simply hover over the tab to see what's in it.

Expected Results:
A preview window appears under the tab showing a thumbnail of the contents of the window. This enables rekonq-like previewing to be available to any and all applications that can be tabbed together by kwin.

The implementation of this wishlist will bring us one step closer to world domination. :)

the deco needs to cause this, but there could be some simple function to call for a thumnail

As we currently don't have tabbed windows at all I mark the bug as WONTFIX. If the tabbed windows infrastructure comes back this can be considered again.
