Description missive 2012-12-04 00:48:21 UTC
I was trying to burn a Ubuntu 12.10 iso image to CD.

Apparently as of 12.10 Ubuntu no longer releases an image that fits on CD. You are supposed to burn it to a DVD.

When trying to select the media, k3b just says "Please insert an empty medium" in the Burn Medium dropdown.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert blank CD
2. Choose Tools -> Burn Image
3. Select ISO image that is too large to fit on CD

Actual Results:
"Please insert an empty medium" in the Burn Medium dropdown.

Expected Results:
"Medium not large enough for selected image" in the Burn Medium dropdown.

I ran into exactly this bug yesterday, and even with almost exactly the same ISO. (I was trying to burn the 12.04 LTS Alternate ISO. Canonical issues NO WARNING WHATSOEVER that this ISO will no longer fit on a CD, and spent an hour trying to figure out why k3b couldn't see my blank CD in the burn-ISO window while seeing it perfectly in the main window, before I figured out that the real problem was the ISO was 3MB larger than my CD blanks.)

Andrew,
I have retested with K3B 18.04.3 by attempting to burn a 736MB ISO to a 700MB disc. The operation was rejected with the message:

"Capacity of the medium in ASUS DRW-23B1ST (/dev/sr0) is smaller than required."

I believe this can be declared fixed.
