Description csbugs 2012-12-03 19:07:56 UTC
AFAICS kmail "thinks" of emails as HTML pages, at least the printing dialog is the very same I get in konqueror for web pages.

Due to this, the printing dialog has no pages tab (so e.g. no n-up feature). This is IMHO no way to behave for a modern application.

Since the last few options to use KDE3 in a reasonable way are fading now, I will have to migrate my small enterprise (~15 people) to KDE 4 soon. They will not be amused to have to cope with this crippled functionality.

Reproducible: Always

Besides of the above named, there are "of course" also the other tabs (job options, header & footer, layout, text settings, ...) missing that I get e.g. in KWrite.

Ok missing feature but which one ?
What is missing from kmail1 ? (kde3)
etc.
Comment 3 csbugs 2012-12-04 09:52:16 UTC
The missing n-up feature hits me (peronally) most. But also the controls for paper type and paper tray are missing. These were all in the printer's properties dialog.

Others may miss other features from the kmail1 printing dialog.

in kde3 ?

Err - yes. I have these features in my KDE 3.5.10 printing dialog, but not in the one I get in KDE SC 4.9.3. Is this what you asked?

Now we use QPrinter from Qt4
KPRinter was removed
=> all theses features were removed in kde4

So we readd some feature but not all.

That may be so or not. From a user's point of view, in an office environment you need these features for your daily work (In reply to comment #6)

You're basically saying that technically my bug is enhancement wish, right? That may be so or not. From a user's point of view, you simply can't get real world work done in an efficient way with KMail in it's current state. These are really basic printing options that users rightly take for granted.

On a side note: To my personal opinion, if KDE SC doesn't provide features like the above, it will loose attractiveness compared to other OSs/desktop environments and will become a thing for fan boys' home use. (No ideological argument intended. I think the conceptual changes in KDE 4 are a bold step in the right direction.)

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
