Description Günter Opitz-Ohlsen 2012-11-23 09:59:19 UTC
When I start yast from my user-area I am prompted for the root password via xdg-su. After password confirmation the program doesn't start. This has something to do with the adjustments I made for automatic login. If I do not allow an automatic login I can start programs via xdg-su otherwise I can't.

I get this error too in KDE on SUSE 11.4 but it depends on the command I try to run:

$ kdesu -c 'echo foo >/tmp/foo'

This command does not prompt for a password (probably prompted before) and works (i.e. create /tmp/foo).

However the command below does prompt for a password (even though the previous one did not seconds before), displays an error message and fails (i.e. does not create /tmp/foo).

$ kdesu -c 'sh -c "echo foo >/tmp/foo"'
kdesu(8406)/kdesu (kdelibs) KDESu::KDEsuClient::command: [ /usr/src/packages/BUILD/kdelibs-4.6.0/kdesu/client.cpp : 207 ]  no reply from daemon

It's really surprising that the addition of an 'sh -c' would break everything.

Configuration:
$ kdesu --version
Qt: 4.7.1
KDE Development Platform: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "erlease 6"
KDE su: 1.0

the problem may be technically in kdelibs, but let's look at this from the "solution" perspective.
