In Gentoo there is a  package having "Categories=net;" defined in a desktop file, but only "Categories=Network;" works.
gentoo dev mentioned this is a KDE bug :

To make the fact clear: A .desktop file contains "Categories=net;", and it  appears in the "lost & found" submenu in KDE . Right ?

Why is it a KDE bug?  

The F.D.O spec  mentions "Network" main category, which KDE supports correctly. It doesn't mention the requirement of supporting that short  "net" category.
