We are aware about. This problem just depends on qtwebkit. Waiting for a fix there...
Comment 2 Martin Holec 2013-04-09 17:26:16 UTC
This bug is still reproducible with rekonq-2.2.1-2.fc19.x86_64. Can you provide link to upstream qtwebkit bugreport?

Same bug with this HTML5 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzPxo7Y6JyA

As someone pointed out in the KDE forums this seems to be a webkit bug, but still:
I just installed rekonq 2.3.0 and still the flash player doesn't scale. I don't think the workaround is sufficient, because i (is it just me?) want to control the size of the website and scale the embedded flash video in proportion of the site e.g. to make a live stream and the chat nect to it fill my viewport.

So if this is a webkit problem in abrowser based on webkit, someone should still fix it.

thx for reading,
piedro

btw: I would love to use rekonq as a regular browser but with this limitation it just doesn't work for me ... it's also an accessabilty problem as I need to scale fonts to readthem because of problems with my eyesight. The website look you get in rekonq when quickly scaling up and down on media rich sites is just not acceptable ...

This is an annoying bug. In my case, it only happens with flash videos. With the HTML5 player works fine (well, when the video is paused and I change to large player it changed the color but returns to normal when it's playing).
Comment 6 piedro 2013-07-01 10:28:33 UTC
Now it's rekonq 2.3.2 - congratz! But the flash player still doesn't scale (HTML5 does, even whilst playing)...

Now: I know this might be webkit or flash problem, but you know what: I don't care! This browser Rekonq is not to be recommended because it inhibits a real show stopper. Video on a lot of websites doesn't work as expected - rendering ugly and unusable results. Not rekonqs fault? Who cares? I won't use it (I would otherwise) and I will recommend not to use it as long as this is fixed. The problem solving process of making sure software works with it's plugins and it's engine is part of development - SORT THIS OUT WITH THE WEBKIT GUYS! Every other browser works, Safari doesn't have these problems and the flash plugin can't annoyingly be changed by any means ...

As is: Rekonq doesn't work because it doesn't work correctly with it's engine - so: DON'T USE IT!

sry to be harsh, but I don't know anyone who uses rekonq productivly and that is a shame but it won't change unless it works ...

thx for reading,
p.

I don't understand your needing for this sort of comments. But this is really the best way to let me turn my eyes off here.
If you need this qtwebkit bug fixed, please DO IT YOURSELF or PAY SOMEONE to fix this for you.
Regards.

I am reopening this bug, because I'm not interested in your trifling disputes.
The fact is, this bug is only reproducible in Rekonq and Konqueror browsers, other webkit based browsers works well.

Andrea, could you provide link to bugreport against qtwebkit? I'd like to track progress there, because here it doesn't look like to be solved in near future.

No, Arora has the same problem. Note that Safari uses webkit2 while Rekonq uses webkit1.
You can easily report new or search existing bugs on https://bugs.webkit.org.

On a technical side, this just depends on qtwebkit flash support. Flash support is build on top of webkit. And "before" the browsers (browsers have nothing to do with it). So, all qtwebkit based browsers should behave the same here (rekonq, konqueror, arora, qupzilla, ...). In the same way the Opera "blink based" browser will behave exactly like chromium.
Chrome is a webkit1 browser (like qtwebkit/qt4 is a webkit1 implementation) but its flash support is... better. On the other side, qtwebkit is switching from webkit1/qwidget/qt4 to webkit2/qml/qt5 (safari is actually the unique browser using webkit2 technologies, as far as I know).
So, we can hope flash support in webkit2 will be better on qt side, but it's impossibile to ask qt devs to work improving flash support on the "no more supported" qtwebkit/webkit1/qt4 side.
